Brian Williams "embellished" his story about being in a helicopter that was shot down in Iraq. In reality he was in the helicopter behind it, but the story was better when he LIED and said he was in the one forced to land after taking fire.
When the truth came out, he was universally vilified and suspended from his job as the lead news anchor for NBC. He eventually resurfaced on the B team at MSNBC after a lengthy hibernation, but the man's reputation has been eternally damaged.
Hillary Clinton also "embellished" her story about ducking sniper fire on the tarmac in Bosnia. She told reporters that she literally had to duck to avoid sniper fire after landing. The reality is, they were told there could be sniper fire in the area, but she was greeted by a large group of people on the tarmac, including children and soldiers. None of them appeared to be in a hurry or the least bit concerned about any bullets flying!
When the truth came out, turns out she LIED also to make her story sound better. When asked about it she gave some bullshit answer and everyone just moved on. She continues to lead the race for the Democratic nomination. No repercussions whatsoever for blatantly lying to the American public.
Can someone please explain to me why a television news anchor would be held to a higher standard of integrity than a presidential candidate?
Edit: Still waiting for the first HRC supporter to offer an answer to this question?

(15,189 posts)I hate looking at him with Rachel. He isn't anything close to Rachel. I haven't been liking her reporting lately, but she is 100% better than Brian Williams. Hillary is just a pathological liar, and nothing can be done except to beat her at the polls, or hope more drips out of the Panama Papers about the Clinton Foundation and money laundering, and arms deals. Protecting women and children one gun at a time.

(92 posts)But he was punished for lying. He's the punchline of jokes at this point and took a big demotion.
When will she be called to account for basically doing the same exact thing?

(1,511 posts)He was sooooooo amazing on The Daily Show and his interviews and other Cameos. When that came out I was so mad that he did that, it was a little lie, but why the F did he keep telling and adding to it. He should have known better. As sad as I was to see him get let go from his position, I also knew he had to be accountable for what he did. I am not sure when I will think he can be a reliable again, since news casters need to be truthful.
As for HRC, it did not get tons of press, some of the stories covering it were right-wing, so as Dems we tend to ignore them because of how many false attacks they do. I do wonder how many people know, but then again it has been a long freaking time, and maybe by now I would have been ok with Williams. But the story may explain why many people don't trust her, it is because she has lied and been caught. I have seen people that are sexist about her lies, they say it is harder for her since she is a woman, so she can get away with more (since it is loaded against her)...I am not sure if I agree, I would be fine with her being mean, gruff, etc, but lies always bug m a bit.

(45,851 posts)Politicians not so much.
If Brian Willams had been getting sexually serviced in his office by an intern he would have been gone too but we all saw that politicians have a different and far lower standard of behavior.
The standard I suspect is still live boy or dead girl.

(4,187 posts)Memories dont live as single, complete events in one spot in the brain. Instead they exist as fragments of information, stored in different parts of our mind. Over time, as the memories are retrieved, or we see news footage about the event or have conversations with others, the story can change as the mind recombines these bits of information and mistakenly stores them as memories. This process essentially creates a new version of the event that, to the storyteller, feels like the truth.
...
The scientific literature is filled with fascinating studies of researchers planting fabricated memories from the simple to the bizarre of being attacked by a vicious animal, for example, or even witnessing demonic possession. A seminal study by Dr. Loftus planted false memories of being a frightened child lost in a shopping mall. After reading a description of getting lost, about one in four study subjects came to believe the false memory as something that really happened to them.

(10,650 posts)Hint: it wasn't anyone other than Hillary herself. And it a lie to embellish her credentials. That's the Clinton way.

(42,660 posts)She is allowed a pass on up to 100 lies per week. Mainstream media do not have a problem with this, as her water carriers, they reach that number by Tuesday. Williams lost his chair because his embellishments were not approved by the NBC News political warfare unit.
