2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumHillary Clinton: "I remember landing under sniper fire."
Since "lies" have come up a lot lately, let's talk about some of Hillary's. One of the most egregious ones was when she said "I remember landing under sniper fire." for no reason. Later video was found proving she had egregiously lied by showing her at a rather peaceful greeting ceremony.
She later said "You know, I uh, made a mistake in describing it." Obama commented on this particular instance saying her remarks were "All part of a pattern..."
Even later she said "You know, gosh, lighten up guys. I mean, obviously. Come on. [laughing] I say millions of words every week..."
Got a hide earlier for mentioning this. I'm assuming since we're all so interested in "lies" being told by candidates, that Hillary's are quite relevant since they speak to her character. I'm sure some will think that saying she was under sniper fire is somehow equivalent to not correcting an interviewer when they conflated the Pope with the Vatican in regards to Bernie's invitation.
Enjoy.
Note to jurors: The source is AP (Associated Press). It is not a right-wing source. This is also video of Hillary herself saying she was under sniper fire, not someone repeating it.

(3,660 posts)Not correcting an interviewer who conflated the Pope with the Vatican in a question - and then correctly stating things later, OR much bigger lies like being under sniper fire, telling unions they'd fight something but then secretly lobbying for it, etc...
But I guess if it happened already, Hillary followers don't care.

(20,176 posts)I don't care what we have to do to destroy Hillary's candidacy as long as it destroys Hillary's candidacy. There's no reason to coy-foot around that...the goal is to end Hillary politically forever for some of us.
It is an admirable objective in its own right. She needs to go away.

(12,998 posts)...does anyone think the Republicans won't?
Hillary supporters often say that Bernie only does so well in general matchup polls because he hasn't been sufficiently vetted. But there is tons of stuff they'll use against Hillary that Bernie won't. It's not just the new stuff like the emails or the Clinton Foundation questions, it's old stuff like this.
Honestly, I think they could do a commercial just on the Bosnia fire incident, and it would probably take her down.

(45,251 posts)I have to laugh at claims that she's been vetted. When she was First Lady of Arkansas and FLOTUS, her husband was vetted: she wasn't. Obama and Bernie never took off their gloves.

(2,565 posts)It is all in the INTENT. You have to INTEND to deceive.
If you got an invitation to the White House, you would probably tell your friends "Holy shit, I'm going to meet the President". After all you are being invited to his house.
If you get an invitation to the Vatican, you can very very reasonable believe, "Holy Guacamole, I'm going to meet the Pope". Again, you are being invited to his house.
It is also somewhat ridiculous to believe that the pope will not be attending these speeches, since it is his signature topic. It is also somewhat ridiculous to believe that the pope will not meet the speakers.
No one has claimed a long term, one on one conversation in which policy and the future of papal cannon will be decided. However, there is almost no doubt that the pope will meet Senator Sanders.

(23,156 posts)it was pointed out there was no sniper fire, I think those subsequent retellings do fit the definition of "lie".
Then there was something she said awhile back about brokering some peace deal which a UN spokesman said was absolutely not true. Can't recall the specific details of that one and don't feel like trying to research it.

(2,101 posts)Being so many here love to talk about the math:
2,000,000 / 7 days = 285,714 words per day
285,714 / 24 hours = 11,904 words per hour
11,904 / 60 minutes = 198 words per minute
and 198 words per minute = 3.3 words per second
So, the math does make it possible if one never sleeps, never shuts up, and never listens.

(213 posts). . . and she believes she has never lied. That she "has always tried to tell the truth". I think she believes her own lies and no longer can tell truth from lies. Telling the truth takes no effort. Lying is a conscious decision for most of us. It's sad by itself and sadder for the rest of us should she be elected.

(1,235 posts)Okay, possibly I guess if you're talking about dealing with hostile powers there might be some small point to be said for having the ability to tell good tactical lies ... but to lie to your own people? For no other reason than to pump up your own image?
How can you possibly trust her?
If popular opinion turns to anti-marriage-equality you know she will flip back to being against marriage equality.
You know that if there is an uptick in crime and the polls show more support for another 'tough on crime bill' that targets minorities she will again support that.
And you know that if polls show another rise in support for outlawing abortions she will flip on that as well.
I really don't understand how a Hillary supporter thinks, it's baffling how a know liar and weathervane gets the support she does ... I blame the WWE for teaching Americans that being a lying jerk back stabbing heel is something to cheer about.
