2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumOK it seems that Bernie will be taking a charter to the Vatican
https://news.vice.com/article/bernie-sanders-vatican-invite-pope-wont-meet-with-himThe trip has also caused a small stir among pundits ahead of the April 19 New York primary, as Sanders will be forced to take a break from campaigning for a few days to fly to Rome and back. The campaign will board a charter immediately after a highly-anticipated Democratic debate in New York that Sanders had been pressuring Clinton to accept on April 14.
Is this an official campaign event?

(1,511 posts)I was going to say he was going to let the Vatican keep some of his families' art work the had "donated" to the church in the 1940's...but I like the pope and it would have been tasteless...I also liked the joke so I posted it in a round about way by saying I wasn't going to. But still love the pope, just not the darker history of the Vatican.
P.S. if my nazi art joke is offending anyone please do tell me I can nix it.

(1,511 posts)I love the artwork of the Vatican (the buildings themselves) but man do I hate a large amount of its history. The fact I wanted to pull this joke shows how much of a good job I think this pope is doing. Also it seems like there is also infighting in the church, I hope he stays in power for a while with all the stuff he is doing.

(42,307 posts)No institutions have a pure history. I think Pope Frankie is starting the church on a long path toward reform but it's going to be a long road.
I hope I one day get to see the artwork in the Vatican and I hope any families of the Holocaust can get their heritage and wealth restored to them from all who stole it.
Did you see the reports from a year or so ago about the beautiful apartment in Paris, closed up from WWII until recently? It boggles my mind that it was there for so long and no one went in.

(1,511 posts)I would line up to see that, something about time-capsule places are so unique. I remember driving down old dirt roads in Arkansas that would lead you out by an old roadside store that looked like a depression age or older but still in full use. Not saying that they had used an old place they found and restored it, but everything about it was still old and in use, the electric poles, the doors, the chairs, the old gas pumps, everything had just refused to move forward in time. I heard the Vatican was built on some old pagan ruins, but I never got to see that, if it is excavated.

Secondly, your 'proof' consists of a reporting that the Clintons have established perfectly legal companies in - gasp - Delaware. That's pretty heady stuff, seeing as Delaware is the corporate capital of the United States. And, for the cherry on the cake, the articie you point to makes clear that nothing about this is illegal.

(34,825 posts)<snip>
The idea was to increase how much one could personally donate to Hillary by taking advantage of the Supreme Court ruling 2014, McCutcheon v FEC, that knocked down a cap on aggregate limits as to how much a donor could give to a federal campaign in a year. It thus eliminated the ceiling on amounts spent by a single donor to a presidential candidate.
In other words, a single donor, by giving $10,000 a year to each signatory state could legally give an extra $330,000 a year for two years to the Hillary Victory Fund. For each donor, this raised their individual legal cap on the Presidential campaign to $660,000 if given in both 2015 and 2016. And to one million, three hundred and 20 thousand dollars if an equal amount were also donated in their spouses name.
From these large amounts of money being transferred from state coffers to the Hillary Victory Fund in Washington, the Clinton campaign got the first $2,700, the DNC was to get the next $33,400, and the remainder was to be split among the 33 signatory states. With this scheme, the Hillary Victory Fund raised over $26 million for the Clinton Campaign by the end of 2015.
The money was either transferred to the Hillary for America or Forward Hillary PACs and spent directly on the Hillary Clinton Campaign, often paying the salaries and expenses within those groups, or it was moved into the DNC or another Clinton PAC. Some of it was spent towards managing the Hillary merchandise store, where you can buy Hillary T shirts and hats and buttons.

(8,698 posts)I have actually answered that bullshit meme:
Sanders campaign started in April 2015. In this Politico story, the campaign stated they had raised $13.7 million from April 30th to June 30.
"76 percent of the Vermont senators donations were $200 or less, amounting to just under $10.5 million of the $13.7 his campaign raised through the end of June.
The $15.2 million comes from a transfer of $1.5 million from his Senate campaign committee.
http://www.politico.com/story/2015/07/bernie-sanders-campaign-finance-fec-15-million-2016-120164
There were several stories and campaign announcements regarding the amount that matches the report:
http://www.cnn.com/2015/07/02/politics/bernie-sanders-fundraising/
Campaign Finance Institute has two charts that support the reported numbers:
Here: http://www.cfinst.org/pdf/federal/president/2016/Table1_Rec-Cash.pdf
And here:
http://www.cfinst.org/pdf/federal/president/2016/Table2_Individual%20Donors.pdf
