2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumHey, Bernie! Quit Your Tea-Partying and Get Serious in N.Y.
Our very own Tea Party has the same formless sense of rage and entitlement as the one on the right, the same disinterest in facts, willful ignorance of hypocrisy and core belief that compromise is the same as treason. Like the one on the right, it has chosen an election as its vehicle, and its campaign tone is set by the same frothing Pharisees who demand purity or political death. And like the angry horde on the right, its a hollow huskits members simply dont see that campaigning is very different from governing. And whats worse? Its rank-and-file dont want to know.
Its a world in which if you arent my best friend, you are my sworn enemy. Where lust for ideology and a cult of personality rule and followers are ignorant of the occasional vicissitudes of governing. Where half-baked rumors are accepted and even cherished, and where the other sides talking points are ignorantly and gleefully redeployed as friendly fire. Its a world where Rachel Maddow and Paul Krugmans liberal cred is derided as insufficient, and where elected officials who have decades-long track records of meaningful progressive policymaking are sneered at as corporate stoogesand where Hollywood starlets explain to Dolores Huerta about what activism REALLY looks like.
And in this bizarre world, a campaign that has no realistic path to victory has changed direction and is speeding along the lowest road of politics. Sen. Bernie Sanders started this campaign as a happy warrior, fighting hard on some of the most valuable issues that we face as a nation. Not the least of those issues is the corrosive force of money in politics. Mr. Sanders was both righteous and right-on to crusade against a system thats swayed by dollars and in thrall to corporate culture. Yes, yes, and yes again. There is no questioning the foundational values that hes inserted forcefully into the national debate, and I salute him for it. Hes been right all along in that respect. Yet, I ask: Whats his plan to get the political system out from under Citizens United?

(30,481 posts)It's laughable to think Tea Baggers own the rights to the majestic Bald Eagle or the American Flag.

It's a certain kind of mentality that tries to project to others that they are somehow more patriotic.
They do it because their words and actions contradict that message.

(5,420 posts)Your posts show serious concern. I can always tell when the Hill camp is worried by what you whine about each day. You use a lot of projection.

The author should take up writing bodice ripping "romantic" novels and make a fortune. Rather than attempting write political commentary.

Same crap that were thrown when people were fighting against financial deregulation, WTO/NAFTA con jobs in the 90's, Iraq War in the 00's....
It's so predictable when anyone challenges the frames that the oligarchs put in place.

That was rude and I hate to admit this, but there are some nuggets of truth in there.

(978 posts)Remember how she was "bashing" Hillary in 2008 together with Olbermann?
Those times have changed, haven't they?
Besides, people are sick and tired of the cronyism in DNC and DLC. People are sick and tired of RW politics and the corruption.
People are sick and tired of knowing that their tax money goes to bail out criminal banks and endless wars instead of investing in the youth (education - but the Hillarybots calls "free stuff we can't afford), infrastructire and healthcare.
Funny how the Hillary camp always finds money to bomb other people but not the money to educate their kids.
