(1,820 posts)It is okay for Hillary to travel, but no Bernie - oh come on - this is ridiculous.
Like the Republicans dissing President Obama for taking a vacation while President Bush spent more time in Texas than in the White House.

(110,261 posts)Sanderss senior strategist Tad Devine said even if the senator came up short in New York, he would not regret the senators decision to take the trip.
"He is not going to give a political speech," Devine said Thursday evening before CNNs debate, "he is going to go and talk about an issue that he cares deeply about, which is a moral economy in the world, and dealing with the tremendous income and inequality not just in America but everywhere. Bernie is a tremendous admirer of Pope Francis...and he really appreciates the opportunity to speak about this on the world stage.

The trip was organized and paid for by Sanders campaign.

(13,375 posts)I'm not saying it wasn't, but I've seen no such report. And the one you cite doesn't report how the trip was paid for.

It's your post. Number 21. Anyone who wishes can verify by looking themselves.
The original post has a link to an article that does not report what you claimed it did. Then you edited to correct the link and have the temerity to claim you did not.
Unbelievable!
As I said, I don't appreciate being gaslighted.

(13,375 posts)On edit added:
As I said, I wasn't claiming the campaign didn't. Just looking for a source. Which was NOT in the article provided in the original post. I don't appreciate being gaslighted.
Just check out the original post.

(13,375 posts)No, the post I responded had a DIFFERENT LINK.
Give me a break. Don't know why you are so interested in defending pnwmom's dishonesty. The link in the ORIGINAL post was to an article that DID NOT report what he claimed.

(1,163 posts)Maybe you missed the joke, but our opponents are up in arms about an imagined high cost for this journey.
I'm just mocking their outrage. Pretty harmless.
But also informative-- That is not a private charter jet, that's a Boeing 767 and, I believe, a regular passenger flight.

(26,371 posts)There's been so much weirdness here the last few days that it's hard to tell make believe craziness from the real deal.
jimmy_crack_corn
(79 posts)Likely paid for because it was to campaign's advantage as it kept travel time at a minimum and allowed him to work on his campaign while in flight. and the passengers were only campaign related individuals and the grandchildren of the campaign related family members were there because of their parents were required to be out of the country and were not adding any real costs. Delta's plane charges are not based on number of passengers when you charter one of their planes.
pnwmom
(110,261 posts)jimmy_crack_corn
(79 posts)I would believe they work for the campaign, but as I said . I am sure the chartered plane was to the campaign's advantage and cost is same whether there are 4 people on the plane or 20 people on the plane.
As an aside, when I traveled for my company my wife and children from time to time traveled with me, the only cost I had to cover was the delta's. and if I drove my miles were reimbursed to the extent it was less than or equal to my air fare and if the hotel room was the same cost for 1 person or 4 persons then i was reimbursed as well..

(5,204 posts)Bernie was pushing for an April 10-13th debate, but Hillary got her way with the April 14th debate which meant no commerical flight was available that get take off after midnight and land before 3pm Vatican (only 9 hours).

I'd love to know more about the passengers, I haven't read about family members.
Except Jane, and I am glad she was able to go!
jimmy_crack_corn
(79 posts)Two likely reasons for size of plane
1. Type of plane that is suitable for transatlantic travel
2. The planes that were available for the travel window that were suitable for transatlantic travel

(1,884 posts)Bernie was invited, in his capacity as a Senator, to attend a conference in a foreign country.
He sat at the head table. He gave a short speech. That means this trip wasn't a self-serving lark.
There are government funds available for congress critters for travel outside the country on official business.
Bernie, as a Presidential candidate has Secret Service protection, so commercial travel is out of the question.
What is the real problem here? Other than Bernie being a Liberal who puts people first, over corporations?
Instead of guessing, do some research.
BainsBane
(57,757 posts)The only potential problem is how he pays for it.
Senators don't get to fly wherever they feel like on public resources.

(1,884 posts)Why would anyone think you would be right about this?
I think you missed the Official Business part. Whatever, I think the trip was properly paid for.
