Sanders’s senior strategist Tad Devine said even if the senator came up short in New York, he would not regret the senator’s decision to take the trip.

"He is not going to give a political speech," Devine said Thursday evening before CNN’s debate, "he is going to go and talk about an issue that he cares deeply about, which is a moral economy in the world, and dealing with the tremendous income and inequality not just in America but everywhere. Bernie is a tremendous admirer of Pope Francis...and he really appreciates the opportunity to speak about this on the world stage.”

But also informative-- That is not a private charter jet, that's a Boeing 767 and, I believe, a regular passenger flight.

Likely paid for because it was to campaign's advantage as it kept travel time at a minimum and allowed him to work on his campaign while in flight. and the passengers were only campaign related individuals and the grandchildren of the campaign related family members were there because of their parents were required to be out of the country and were not adding any real costs. Delta's plane charges are not based on number of passengers when you charter one of their planes.

I would believe they work for the campaign, but as I said . I am sure the chartered plane was to the campaign's advantage and cost is same whether there are 4 people on the plane or 20 people on the plane.

As an aside, when I traveled for my company my wife and children from time to time traveled with me, the only cost I had to cover was the delta's. and if I drove my miles were reimbursed to the extent it was less than or equal to my air fare and if the hotel room was the same cost for 1 person or 4 persons then i was reimbursed as well..

Sat Apr 16, 2016, 01:03 AM
Apr 2016

Bernie was invited, in his capacity as a Senator, to attend a conference in a foreign country.
He sat at the head table. He gave a short speech. That means this trip wasn't a self-serving lark.
There are government funds available for congress critters for travel outside the country on official business.
Bernie, as a Presidential candidate has Secret Service protection, so commercial travel is out of the question.
What is the real problem here? Other than Bernie being a Liberal who puts people first, over corporations?
Instead of guessing, do some research.
