Honestly, how likely is it just anybody can loiter in the papal residence and "ambush" the pope?![]()

This was a craven move on the part of the campaign to save face for this whopper: "You're meeting with the Pope?" "Yup." On his way out the door at 4am... ![]() C'mon folks, it is what it is. |

18. “This morning as I was leaving, Senator Sanders was there,” Francis said. “He knew I was coming out"
Setting aside the creep factor, why did Sanders run to the US media and say he had a "meeting" with the pope. How is that not a flat out lie?

17. Here's how it happened:
On the Vermont senator, Francis said he greeted Sanders on Saturday morning as he was leaving the Santa Marta, the hotel within Vatican grounds where the pope lives.
Sanders was staying at the same residence, because that’s where all participants in the Vatican conference he attended on Friday were spending the night. The only exceptions were Presidents Evo Morales of Bolivia and Rafael Correa of Ecuador, who stayed at their country’s embassy in Rome. “This morning as I was leaving, Senator Sanders was there,” Francis said. “He knew I was coming out at that time, and he had the kindness to greet me.” “When I came down, he introduced himself, I greeted him with a handshake, and nothing more,” the pope added. “It’s common courtesy, this is called common courtesy. “If someone thinks that greeting someone is getting involved in politics,” he said, “I recommend that they find a psychiatrist.” link: http://www.cruxnow.com/church/2016/04/16/pope-francis-calls-sanders-greeting-only-common-courtesy/ This morning, Bernie Sanders told reporters that he had a meeting with the pope, which forced the pope to respond with the facts when he was asked about it. Bernie made it political. He loitered and waited for the pope to exit the hotel they were both in, and introduced himself. Then he ran and told US Media that he had a meeting with the pope. He's a liar. |

20. There is no way the pope's handlers would allow him to be put in an unavoidable situtation
Sanders was allowed to be in a location where he could encounter the pope, and the pope was made aware of this fact. The pope made a choice to greet him.

21. "He knew I was coming out at that time, and he had the kindness to greet me."
This tells me that Bernie was informed when the Pope would be leaving so they could meet.
The Pope thanks Bernie for greeting him. Yet, this gets all twisted up as if Bernie pushed himself on the Pope. |

23. Everyone, including those of us here in America, knew the pope had an early flight to Greece
It doesn't take rocket science or an invite to know what time the pope would have to leave to get there on time. The pope went out of his way to avoid direct contact with Sanders, but Sanders stalked the exit to force an encounter.
