Related: About this forumSanders' supporters throw away real money ($1k+) onto the road to protest against Hillary Clinton
Wow, when I first heard about it, I couldn't believe it. There is now a video of Sanders' supporters throwing a lot of cash onto the road to protest Hillary Clinton.
Here's the video https://twitter.com/danmericaCNN/status/721528739574624256/video/1
The money was verified to be real by a CNN reporter https://twitter.com/danmericaCNN/status/721529658412367872
This is just insane. That money could have gone to a women's shelter or a soup kitchen that would have fed hundreds.

(18,115 posts)It's not like it was an actual contribution to Hillary, so it wasn't actually wasted. They probably just picked it up later.

(3,964 posts)Not a single one went to pick up any of the dollar bills. I don't know about you, but I can't afford to throw thousands of dollars away like those rich protestors.

Good God. Hilly is toast.

(49,019 posts)$353,000 would feed a lot of people at soup kitchens and women shelters and so very much more . More so than a thousand bucks. I'm sure some of the protesters picked the money up, the video ended after the cars drove through. I thought it made a good statement and I applaud Mr. Gold.

(3,964 posts)You can't really put a price tag on it. If it means raising large amounts of money to crush the Republicans I am 100% for it.
You gotta fight in the mud and get yourself a bit dirty to beat the Republicans.

(12,606 posts)Perhaps Hilly could come clean on what she said to earn $$$ from Goldman's Sacks.
Who knows? Perhaps the money will find its way to somebody needy, but thanks for the concerns!

(2,461 posts)Or Hillary, for that matter. I'd like to see a thread where they can go - 'wow, that was some event Hillary!' or 'Look at what we did for our candidate!' And I don't mean polls, or math. I mean some initiative during this whole cycle where she or you did anything extraordinary.
Just one...

You want to talk about wasted money? Look
at the MIC budget!

(4,229 posts)Actually I think the Sanders campaign is still radically outfundraising Clinton so they probably had the extra money to do it

(98,883 posts)worthy cause. They could have done it in the name of what they were protesting.
Doesn't say much for these folks critical thinking skills.
However, this is typical. When they are upset if a group or a supporter endorses Hillary, they spam the web the group's or supporters web sites and FB page, and this nonsense.

Substitute Bernie for Hillary, and then check out the OP again, then shake your head.

(24,411 posts)but it didn't go to waste. They had their protest yesterday, and people are still talking about it today--precisely because of the money throwing. It bought them additional free media coverage and is extending the life of the story about the protest. And us poor slobs are discussing it on social media, which further publicizes their initial protest.
Why does anyone protest? To attract attention! The more media attention, the better.
Coverage on CNN and additional media outlets as well as social-media exposure is most likely worth six figures.
They didn't have to hire a PR firm. They didn't have to produce an ad. They just had to make this initial investment.
Well played, 99 percenters. Well played.

(24,979 posts)What does any commercial on TV cost? How many have been bought in this campaign? 30 seconds! $1000 buys what, 0.2 of a second?! 0.5? And who sees that shit? Who gets swayed?
Now you're giving this moral speech about $1000 for a piece of theater that gets press and ends up being a social media thing, and you post it here on pre-social media ca. 2002? A fantastic return on the investment.
Your problem apparently is that relatively middle-class people spend $1000 collectively to get a lot of media, but you have no problem with rich motherfuckers and campaigns spending $225,000 to get 30 seconds on TV?!
