Related: About this forumReuters apparently messed up the Pope's translation on meeting with Bernie.

Most of the start of the video is the same wit the new translation. But it changes as it goes on, no mention of a psychiatrist. Also he told Bernie something different.
Does this help or hurt Bernie?

(8,175 posts)who refused to accept that the meeting was prearranged, even with the link to the article where Sachs explains what happened...and of course I got a hide for what I said to the person who would not accept reality...who was being so profoundly stubborn and would not even accept what is coming from the Vatican. "Who should I believe, the Pope or Sachs" was the reply. Jesus!
I swear this place is making people crazy. It's sure starting to make me feel crazy.

(8,175 posts)But trying to talk to some of these people here is like talking to a three-year-old. You can offer them proof and you can walk them through it over and over again and still they refuse to believe.
I can't believe the numbers of threads on this trip to Rome. I am gratified that the proof is out now that Bernie never "lied" about anything about this trip, but it's still crazy making to have to put up with this brick wall.
According to the economist Jeffrey Sachs, who has also been attending the conference which ends today, the courtesy visit was prearranged. Last night the meeting was scheduled for 6am this morning, Sachs said in comments to CNA. They had the chance to talk for several minutes. No photographs were taken of the encounter.
He said the senator thanked Pope Francis for his leadership on the moral economy and his leadership on climate change and he described how the Pope's leadership on climate change has made a vast difference in accelerating action on climate change. He also expressed his gratitude to Pope Francis for all of his moral leadership and his brave stances.
Pope Francis thanked the senator formally for coming to the Vatican and for participating in the meeting at the Academy, Sachs recounted, adding that the Pope explained that an earlier start than expected this morning meant he couldnt greet the conference participants last night as has had been originally planned. He thanked the senator for understanding and appreciated that he had come and participated, Sachs said. The senator wished him well on today's journey and the Pope wished Senator Sanders and his wife very well and then the meeting concluded and the Pope left for Greece.
Sachs said he believed that because the Pope couldnt meet the conference participants last night, the Vatican wanted to find a way to thank the senator for coming and to have this meeting, so in the evening the senator was told that it would be the meeting this morning.

But of course Sachs is lying here because the Pope did not say all this to the reporters on the plane!
northernsouthern
(1,511 posts)Good point about Jeffrey Sachs, I wonder if the Pope is going to rebuke him too, it is the pope though, with forgiveness so it pretty much means he his never going to give up on any of us not matter what do.

(19,926 posts)If this had been a fair fight, Bernie would be winning by now, no question about it. Hopefully there's enough time to turn it around, but with the media blackout and bias and with Hillary's racist "whisper" campaign, they sure got to keep their jump started lead due to her being known longer than they should have.

(45,251 posts)What is obvious from both translations and from what Bernie said himself: neither of them wants any hint that the Pope is trying to meddle in US politics.
This whole kerfuffle is about trying to prove Bernie is a liar when Hillary is the one who polls untrustworthy.
In any event, it is what it is. Handwringing is not going to change it.

(4,982 posts)first off, unless you know italian, I don't trust anyone's interpretation, least of all the subtitles included in this clip.
It ends with the lyrics to a song, along with the sound track, to said song.
At this point, I'm more confused than ever.
I believe what Bernie has stated happened. If I could find a reputable translation of what Pope Francis stated, then I could believe what the Pope said, and then I would expect the two accounts would match in spirit at least.
Most people in the US don't even know Bernie let the country and saw the Pope.
Thank you MSM, you never disappoint (
)
For those following Bernie closely, we know he is genuine. For those following Hillary, they will believe what they wish to believe. Most are very intelligent and believe it was a non-political exchange, I'm sure.
Once again, the Pope and Bernie are on the right side of history, but we create controversy because we need conflict in our lives.
Wears me out sometimes, seriously.
Hope everyone has a nice Sunday. Here in the Northeast we are finally enjoying some much needed sunshine and temperatures to match.

(14,255 posts)Beautiful day, heart-worm infested dog we rescued is doing well and so gentle and lovely, LOLcats, I still have two out of three of the FIOS services that got sold to Frontier (Frontier is astoundingly casual about people losing landlines for fucking weeks), house is quiet and calm - but the BEST thing is the thought of the many eager clicks this OP must be getting! And the disappointment.
northernsouthern
(1,511 posts)That sucks, but catching it is a big thing. Is it all on the clear for that? I worked at a vets a little out of high school so I saw a few in for it. We had a little dog there that was incredibly viscous, you could only walk him by sitting down and catching him with the leash as he curled up on your lap? No clue why he would attack you if you got too close, but the second you sat down he wanted on your lap.
djean111
(14,255 posts)She was left at the animal shelter because she has quite a case of heartworms. Luckily, there is a foundation that pays for treatment for dogs if someone will adopt them, because the treatment is kinda pricey - rather than just put the dog down. (Jagger's Dream).
Charlotte will get her first shot in a couple of weeks, then another a month after, and then another after that. She will be dangerously weak during that time. But - she is gentle, loving, housebroken, touches noses with my cats, and generally adds a layer of calmness and happiness to the household. Sappy but true. She is an escape artist every once in a while, but just goes a little down the block to play with some other dogs, and two little girls bring her home, no leash. She won't run out the front door, but will worm her way through a window. That little dog you speak of? Probably temperament, and probably weak.
We are told she may make it, she may not, but at least she will have had lots of love, and not been stuck in a cage until being put to sleep, and if she pulls through - wondrous dog indeed!
northernsouthern
(1,511 posts)It is I am sure the fact you have given her a good place may reduce the stress level and that will give her a better chance than she would have had with out. I hope she pulls through.

(19,926 posts)I started feeding another stray cat who decided to meow outside my back door every morning. I took in two from my yard already and they are adorable. One actually had a 'home' on the next block but the woman basically ignored it, just put food outside for him. She said he refused to stay inside but she lived in a guest house with 2 other cats so I suspect they bullied him and the place was too small to have his own space. He LOVES it at my place even though the other cat I have is a brat and swipes at him from time to time. They are both allowed out during the day and come in when I call them.
This new one will be trapped by someone who works with a rescue place and checked at the vet for microchip, spay/neuter (and get fixed if necessary), worms, and then I think the rescue place will try to find it a home. I don't think it's catch and release, but if it is I'll keep feeding him and try to find him a home.
S/he hisses at me as I put the food down but lets me pet it lightly while it eats and a couple times even when I didn't give it food. Hopefully it gets a home where it can relax and not be so defensive.

(1,511 posts)I was going to post it in the Bernie only group, but figured it was better to get everyone opinions as they would see at some point (band-aide all off at once). From the looks of it it some people are taking it well, not too many negative I told you sos from the other camp (if they have even watched it), and a few people that even seem to think it is a joke. I am just happy no one has had a post hidden, but we all read the TOS, so they know the rules and so do I.

(17,984 posts)position. I would say embarrassing someone and putting them in an awkward position does not "help" Bernie.
northernsouthern
(1,511 posts)...what did he mean with his last few lines? I still am on the fence about it.

(17,984 posts)so he had to cover his bases with everyone. He sure doesn't look happy about being put in that position.
northernsouthern
(1,511 posts)It just seemed in the newer translation that is was way more out of left field an he never said the psychiatrist line after all...which blew my mind. They apparently misunderstood a colloquial common in the neighborhood of Buenos Aires where the pope grew up as a child. But I am sure some people are never gonna give up on this.

(57,936 posts)and very loving exchange from one man, the Pope to another, Bernie Sanders of admiration and appreciation for taking an unpopular but utterly necessary stand on the need for economic justice in our world.
Those who don't get this probably don't understand Italian. But then most Americans don't understand Italian. In fact most Americans don't speak any language really other than English.
Ignorance is bliss. The Pope supports the movement that is pushing toward more economic justice. So does Bernie. The attention being paid to the meeting between the Pope and Bernie is good for both of them because it will draw attention to their mutual effort to improve life for many millions of people on our planet which is now besieged by greed.
R B Garr
(17,984 posts)reason the Press was hounding him was because Bernie put him in an awkward position.
I doubt many Catholics like to see their Pope put in an awkward position so Bernie can get good press while the Pope gets bad press. Yeah, ignorance is bliss, all right.
