2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumWith Hillary we get a loose cannon called "Bill"
Does anybody know exactly what Bill is going to DO in the White House if Hillary Clinton is elected? Seriously. So far he played around with the election laws at voting stations in MA and again in OH and then let loose on his "super predator and prison"rant to a group. He cannot fill the traditional role of "1st Lady". Has he healed himself and stopped his "womanising ways"? Or will there be more affairs? Will he be able to shelve his ego and remember that he isn't #1 in the 1st couple any longer. He will be in uncharted territory. So will we.
I honestly don't know what all can happen with the two of them at the helm. It kind of scares me. Bill Clinton is quite not what he used to be....that can be good or bad.
I think that this is an extremely important question to ask because Bill isn't going to just sit back with a nominal role and should he be under a lot more scrutiny because of the prominent and important place in which he will reside. With his previous health issues would he be able to handle a stressful post and/or position in the Clinton White House? I think that this is a very important and necessary question that needs to be thought about, asked and answered.

(786 posts)Al that we might have to wonder about. Like I said we never had a man be a 1st Lady. Especially a man that was President of the United States. It is a very very different situation for sure.

I don't think so.
How do you make that connection?

(14,177 posts)I will see if I have to worry about it in June until then that's for Hillary supporters to worry about like the ones I over heard talking today. They said they voted for her with their fingers crossed that Bill wouldn't become a distraction if she wins.

(100,133 posts)He's fully involved in the CGI that he and Hillary founded. And doing things like negotiating for the release of Korean-American journalists.
Spouses do not have a "post or position" in the White House, "stressful" or otherwise. Traditionally they are hostesses. They receive an allowance, not a salary, and it is for all the hostessy things they do and the social secretaries they employ.
At least until the late 20th century, when women such as Hillary and Michelle became FLOTUS, women who had professional careers up to the point when their husbands became POTUS. Then those women were forced to give up their paid jobs and become unpaid adjuncts to the POTUS.
So that's the precedent. Bill can do like Bush Senior and put his assets in a blind trust. He can become an ambassador at large. It can be decided that he really is a person separate from Madam President.
All the rest is just a rather sexist speculation garlanded about with Right Wing hatred of both Clintons.
And what I've been saying all along is that Democrats ought not let the RW choose our presidents for us.

(5,636 posts)... Going into a polling place is legal, but soliciting votes and campaigning is not. Clinton supporters, including MA officials, who one presumes support Clinton, said what he did was legal. His opponents said it was not. In the other case, he tried to defend his wife to BLM, politically not the smartest thing to do, but pretty understandable. Once the nomination issues are settled these sort of issues will recede.
What will he do in the WH? Well, through his Foundation, which his progressive opponents will come to see has done a lot of good work on AIDS, climate changing, education, and other matters, and through his connections made as a President with a pretty successful foreign policy, one would expect that Clinton would be a very good roaming ambassador of some sort. He would also be a good adviser. There's a reason that many people back Hillary -- it's because overall they have positive memories of the Bill Clinton presidency.

(5,240 posts)Seriously.
She prefers an Iron fist over understanding. She showed that in the NY Debate When she couldn't even say that the Palestinians deserved an ounce of respect.
She is Homeopathy in this race.
She leads people to believe that she can fix the problem with a few pandering words that never make it past the echo in the back
of a room.
She IS the problem.
All of Washington is the Problem.
Feel the Bern is more than a slogan. It is the way we bring our media back and evolve.
The echoing Fawning media that knows these congress critters, hang out with them,go to barbecues with them.
Rub elbows.
They all want to be part of the Washington Clique.
We have talking head shows that soft ball them on stations owned and operated by people who support the politicians they are supposed to be impartial on.
Hell, I can't even watch MSNBC or CNN anymore because they sound like fox. I guess like Hillarys campaign thinking they can mend fences later that they feel they can bring their audiences back after lying to them like they did during the Preemptive strike on Iraq that Hillary voted for.
What liberal progressive issues will she "Evolve toward the right" on to pander to people who will never vote for her?
Off to work now.
