I say its a mix between Denial and Anger. I've only seen a few get to Bargaining so far. Chin up y'all.

Oh, and no mommy issues - that was another hilarious screed. Good grief.

(42,862 posts)I think it's safe to say that you overestimate that person's "influence" beyond the walls of DU. It's also true that mature voters aren't influenced by what anonymous posters say to each other on this web site. It's amazing to think that someone would change their vote (or not vote at all) to get revenge on an anonymous adversary.

(1,267 posts)A man goes home and masturbates his typical fantasy. A woman on her knees, a woman tied up, a woman abused.
A woman enjoys intercourse with her man as she fantasizes being raped by 3 men simultaneously.
The man and woman get dressed up on Sunday and go to Church, or maybe to their 'revolutionary' political meeting.
Have you ever looked at the Stag, Man, Hero, Tough magazines on the shelf of your local bookstore? Do you know why the newspaper with the articles like 'Girl 12 raped by 14 men' sell so well? To what in us are they appealing?
It's an excerpt from a satirical essay he wrote attacking gender stereotypes in 1972 for an alternative magazine.
Next.
nolawarlock
(1,729 posts)It's still a disgusting example of rape culture. To what in us are they appealing indeed.
As for the full context, that's why the banner is a clickable link. They can read the full context on Snopes.
Amaril
(1,267 posts)That's ok, we know why. It was an attempt -- by you -- to paint Sanders as a misogynist, which he is not.
And yes, it is a commentary on rape culture before commenting on rape culture was "cool". He wrote this in 1972 as a satirical commentary on societal stereotypes, and the roles of men & women in sexual relationships.
You have no "smoking gun" against Bernie in this. This is no more of a "thing" than Hillary being a Goldwater Girl. You do know what Goldwater was most famous for, right?

(1,267 posts)......is an inflammatory shell game as opposed to honest representation, you may get some "Oh My Gods!" in the short term, but this is a smart group of people...........your "strategy" will eventually be seen for the intellect-insulting flame-bait it is.
But, hey, have fun with it! Sorry you feel you have to distort a 44 year old essay to win support for your candidate. That must be a very sad & lonely place.
nolawarlock
(1,729 posts)the Snopes page that the banner links to explains both negative and positive lights that this quote could be looked at in. So Snopes lets the reader decide on intent. I personally think it's a terrible way to see women.

(5,275 posts)merely cut & paste because, after all, you can read all the words which means 'you know what they mean'...or not, but definitely one of the two...
it appears you are using the WRONG STAGES delineation...when considering Bernie supporters you should be using a guide to the 'STAGES OF CONSCIOUS AWARENESS' which, understandably, you are not remotely aware of yourself:
Stage 1: Breaking Negative Confluence and Dealing with Negative Emotions
Stage 2: Positive Confluence
Stage 3: Positive Lucidity
plus, you might be stuck at the bottom of this pyramid:

(1,786 posts)However I am still confounded by the fact that the Democratic Party finally for the first time in my half century of existence had a candidate that was openly campaigning on the core principles/values the Democratic Party has wanted or at least used to want. Economic, Education, Healthcare, Defense, Financial reform and the DNC, the establishment and many voters turned their back on him.
We had the chance to put a candidate into the White House who would have actually made a difference.
Congratulations on your win, I wish you the best of luck.

(31,700 posts)You used a personal experience or an isolated example instead of a sound argument or compelling evidence.
It's often much easier for people to believe someone's testimony as opposed to understanding complex data and variation across a continuum. Quantitative scientific measures are almost always more accurate than personal perceptions and experiences, but our inclination is to believe that which is tangible to us, and/or the word of someone we trust over a more 'abstract' statistical reality.

mine has grown huge lately.
I have kept a good group of people. Many are Hillary supporters who truly are in this for good. We disagree but they never pull the "Don't cha wish you could join our country club? Sorry, you are not good enough to join but you can help us build it.". That other group is gone for good. People I have liked for over a decade but never knew they had that in them.
It makes DU functional again and I feel much less turmoil and do not risk hides.
