(28,581 posts)people pay her that money to hopefully gain access to her family and her family friends. Initations to parties, get together, etc.
That is why all these companies are paying politicians to give speeches. They cannot ask for quid pro quo, but what they do get in return is ACCESS.
Access is something the rest of the people are not allowed.

(19,221 posts)with a local celebrity (like the Channel 92 Weathercaster), a Happy Hillary Meal (complete with a statuette of Hillary and a pre-addressed envelope to mail more money in), a postcard of the Clinton's summer rental mansion in the Hamptons, and a genuine thank-you note with a genuine facsimile signature by Hillary herself!
Sounds good to me!

(36,063 posts)Hmmm. What a bargain! How much does she think young people make in their minimum wage jobs?
May she should back the $15 minimum???
BTW Bernie will love ya for $27 dollars or for free if you don't have any money.

(12,680 posts)A special YOUNG VOTERS fundraising group....for donations "as low as" $250.00? Are they kidding? $250.00?
On second thought, I suppose if you command a quarter of a million dollars for an hour-long speech, $250.00 must sound like random loose change lost in your couch cushions.

She actually told me that she went without lunch a few days so she could donate a few bucks to Bernie.

Criminy crackers.
And what I positively HATE THE MOST, my SEIU1199 union endorsed her, and their main goal right now is "#FIGHT FOR 15"
Talk about counter-intuitive and disingenuous.

... Thus, if you raise $250, for instance by hosting a party with 25 people donating $10 each, you become as associate member of for45. How no idea what it means to become an associate member, but maybe you get a chance to get seats at debates or get into other events.

(3,366 posts)The phrase "on some fundamental level" is what grabs my attention. What did she mean by that? Money for its own sake, moving money around from one hedge fund to another, accumulating vast sums?
I think she cares very much about the influence and things money can buy... just not money itself, LOL.

Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
