Democrat Hillary Clinton is the only presidential contender scheduled to attend a reception next week organized by a leading political association of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders as she seeks to consolidate her support from minority voters.
The Asian Pacific American Institute for Congressional Studies Leadership Network, a nonpartisan group that seeks to get Asian Americans elected to political office, said on Wednesday that it had invited all presidential hopefuls to the event in Washington, but Clinton was the only one to accept.
The campaigns of Clintons Democratic rival Bernie Sanders and Republican hopeful Ted Cruz did not commit, and the campaign of Republican front-runner Donald Trump campaign responded that he was unlikely to attend, Floyd Mori, president and chief executive of the leadership network said.
Republican John Kasichs campaign did not respond.

(146,329 posts)that says it represents a demographic segment. You haven't heard her remarks, but you "know" she'll be pandering to that group. I'm sure they'll be glad that a presidential candidate cared enough to show up and speak.
Oh, to be so prescient. Pandering, indeed. Ugh.

(28,270 posts)When his followers insult Hillary for even talking to a minority group, it again
reinforces the fact that Sanders is all about white male angst and nothing else matters.

(12,689 posts)You should be more concerned about why Sanders didn't attend.

(833 posts)So, if one goes to non-Asian group, is it not pandering?
It only means she does not ignore us as consistency.
Do you know the interesting history between Republican and Asian community.
Asian community is on the average, more wealthy and conservative compared to general population.
In short, they could have been a strong Republican supporter.
( I am more of exception. I am liberal Democrat though BS people may be against this since I am Hillary supporter.)
Republican completely ignored Asian community. Thus they became more inclined towards Democrat by now.
I know that BS people are not all white male; however, there are many of them and give me an impression that I am not well informed or evil if I support Hillary.
Your comment was personally offensive.
Think about this. If you said the same thing with other minority group, I wonder if you can say the same thing.

(99,711 posts)Is her addressing the concerns of Asian Americans a good thing?

I'm very skeptical.

(814 posts)Let me be clear, this is NOT an indictment on Hillary but a general sense of DISGUST I have for candidates and people in general being that they ignore the Asian American community.
Part of it is that the Asian American community doesn't scream loud enough to be heard. The other part is on us, that we need to START paying attention again and keep doing it. I don't believe that Hillary will do this though.
Why? I've seen this cycle. There's an Asian American History Month and NO ONE in MSM or possibly even Alternative Media covers it, they completely ignore it. They DO pay attention to Black History Month which is important given how integral a part they are of American history; however, Asians are quite a substantial part especially if one remembers that the Chinese immigrated here in large numbers to build the American railroad being treated quite badly in the process.
Meanwhile, look at the Farm Workers Movement and the fact Cesar Chavez got a stamp. I'm just saying, give Asian Americans their due and recognition every year and on stamps and other things too.
