(101,853 posts)I find the argument that the left of center vote be divided which will result in a Trump presidency odious, repugnant, and vile. She will have her white privilege to fall back on while our Hispanic and Muslim brothers and sisters will be fed to the wolves.
Lazy Daisy
(928 posts)I keep seeing this "if you're white and don't vote for Hillary you're a racist" in many threads. My question is, why?
I shouldn't have a choice and not be labeled by it, when that label has absolutely nothing to do with my choice?
Frankly, African Americans came out strongly for President Bill Clinton and how'd that work out? Just sayin'
Hillary has been a flawed candidate from the start. Her unfavorables are off the hook. She's being investigated from the FBI under a Democratic administration. Why is the Democratic party going with a chance at losing?
DemocratSinceBirth
(101,853 posts)Nobody is saying that but if you have proof to the contrary please post it..
Yet political experts:
Insiders: Clinton would crush Trump in November
http://www.politico.com/story/2016/04/hillary-clinton-donald-trump-november-insiders-222598
and the Predictions Markets give her an excellent chance of winning:
http://predictwise.com/politics/2016-president-winner#Link3
Any way, that wasn't my point. If you are Muslim or Hispanic Trump presents a mortal threat to you. They don't have the benefit of white privilege to hide behind.
Lazy Daisy
(928 posts)And there are many, many more. Too many around here equate a non-vote for Hillary with racism.
DemocratSinceBirth
(101,853 posts)Saying not voting for HRC makes one racist is patently inane. It's stupid!
What I am saying is that Trump presents a mortal danger to Hispanics and Muslims. Even though the courts will hopefully block his fascistic plans he will create a climate where they feel marginalized, vulnerable, and alone. Not doing what one can to prevent that from happening screams white privilege.
Lazy Daisy
(928 posts)same same
So why is it only thought of as white privilege to support Bernie and not Hillary?
I find this whole argument lopsided and insulting. Which I suspect lots of people do.
And there are those, including the woman in the video who equate Hillary with that same mortal danger. The only difference is in what country that danger takes place.

That's a straw man argument and consequently a logical fallacy.
I am not suggesting white privilege motivates one to support Senator Sanders. I am suggesting not opposing Donald Trump does though.
If you don't believe a President Trump presents a mortal danger to our Hispanic and Muslim brothers and sisters there is nothing I can do to disabuse you of that notion.
I am watching hundreds of protesters protesting a Trump event. They obviously get it.
Lazy Daisy
(928 posts)You're purposely avoiding.
You say Trump is a danger....I say some believe Hillary to be SAME danger.... does not equate to ME denying Trump is a danger.
Let's please go back to WHY so many here suggest that not supporting Hillary is racist, or exhibiting white privilege as you say.

(960 posts)privileged people? (not only the white or female ones). Let me tell you what it is, it is power peddling, and money..cold hard cash. That cash comes from somewhere, if you did some research you would find out how you are contributing to that dark channel of power peddling and the grease that keeps those wheels turning. Every time you see so much month at the end of your paycheck left..start thinking about this and how the fruit of your labor is being used to work against you by the very people you adore. But I understand that putting your head in the sand and pretend like none of this happens makes for a more comfortable live. Ignorance is bliss!

(101,853 posts)You claimed to have some inside knowledge that if I was aware of it I would come to the conclusion that a Trump presidency is preferable to a Clinton one or at least just as bad.
I know Trump is a xenophobe, nativist, sexist, misogynist, anti-semite, and racist. It would take a lot of heretofore unavailable information for me to believe his presidency would be anything but an abomination.

(960 posts)point out in my own words (not). Whereas I actually only point out the weakness and how the corruption that your candidate is contributing to, indirectly is affecting you. But yes, somewhere I must have said that Trump was better...sorry about that...I guess your higher intellect wins again.

This petty bullshit is annoying.

(101,853 posts)Of course, the courts will stymie Drumpf's worst plans for them but his presidency would result in a climate where they felt marginalized, alone, and vulnerable.
It would be akin to the treatment of German Jews during the period in Germany between Hitler's ascension to power in 1933 and the passage of the Nuremberg Laws in 1935. There were no specific laws against them during that time but Hitler had created a climate where they were marginalized.
Of course, the woman in the video will have her privilege to hide behind.

(45,850 posts)and I find it curious that quite continually we see Trump being projected as though he would be god-emperor of the US rather than president and as foul as his positions are, the extreme pronouncements have no chance of ever becoming law or even acted on in a serious manner, there are checks and balances in our government , same goes for Bernie and believe it or not Hillary too
that is reality

(10,721 posts)But any suggestion that a Clinton presidency would do more harm than a Trump or Cruz presidency is not worth taking seriously.
I get why people are pissed off about the plutocratic nature of US government, but some have completely lost touch with reality.

(2,064 posts)Young people know the corporatist wing of the party is out to screw them just as the GOP is, and that's why they love Bernie, because he wants to put a stop to it. Meanwhile, the "I've got mine, fuck you" crowd in both parties wants to make sure the status quo is upheld.
There's a reason why Goldman Sachs bought Hillary. By adding her to their portfolio, they wound up owning every viable candidate in both parties except for Bernie. The wailing and the gnashing of teeth by the HRC crowd is simply a reflection of the fact that they KNOW a vote for HRC is a vote for more of the same, they just don't like anyone shining a bright light on that unsavory truth.
If Hillary wins, the party may squander a chance for a real seismic change in American politics that would favor the party for the foreseeable future. Or we can just go status-quo HRC and continue to just toss the keys to the Oval Office back & forth with the GOP, and resign ourselves to corporate slavery for the rest of the century.

(3,017 posts)Likewise, a Republican President would never have been able to accomplish the corporate agenda Bill Clinton pushed through: NAFTA, the Crime Bill, the Welfare Reform Bill, the Telecommunications Act, repeal of Glass-Steagall, deregulation of financial derivatives, etc. And if not for the Lewinsky scandal, you could probably add privatization of Social Security to the list.
Trump would run his mouth and act like an idiot as President. Hillary would get things done for her corporate masters. The mechanisms and network are all in place. She would hit the ground running.

(3,017 posts)The Clinton Foundation and its ties to sleazy foreign companies (Giustra's company, The Lundin Group, etc.), third world despots and the military-industrial complex is what really scares the hell out of me about Hillary. I believe the Clinton Foundation has become basically an international clearinghouse for third world despots selling off mineral rights that belong to their people, arms sales, etc. There has never been anything like it to my knowledge.
Bill Clinton actually had to be forcefully turned down from taking lucrative speaking fees from the Republic of Congo by Hillary's State Department. Hillary had a boss then and had to be sensitive to that. What is going to happen when she doesn't have a boss?
