DWS to 36 States: "You're Doing It Wrong."

Debbie Wasserman Schultz on MSNBC just said she doesn't want Independents and Republicans choosing the Democratic Nominee. Only registered members of Our Party should be voting in the DEMOCRATIC PARTY PRIMARY

Source

36 states have a Democratic primary or caucus that is:
-- Completely open to all registered voters.
-- Open to registered Democrats and unaffiliated voters.
-- Open only to registered Democrats, but voter can change on the same day.

So, Debbie Wasserman Schultz just told 36 states: "You're doing it wrong."

North Dakota has no formal registration system at all. You do need to show Drivers license, non-driver ID, or tribal ID at the polls.

A 180° change in decision making during her tenure may have meant we would still be controlling both houses of Congress.

I think you are on to something, she may well have been the worst person to do the job ever given it. That is quite the accomplishment!

Yay! That's so nice.

As to what you said about Bernie... prove it or stop continuing to try to smear him.

He stands up for women's rights more than Hillary does. She's the one who said she's willing to compromise on a woman's right to control her own body. As a 'feminist' why don't you support the candidate who actually supports your issues?

The opinion itself is bad enough, but what's even worse is how clueless she is. I really think she has no idea that a majority of the states are open to all, or open to Dem + unaffiliated.

But open primaries (and caucuses just in general) are problematic. There will no doubt be manipulative, disingenuous people voting even though they have no intention of ever supporting the person for whom they are voting. Obviously people would see a benefit in the opposition having a close, hard-fought battle for the nomination.

that the only way they can protect themselves is to reinforce the safe space/sandbox: they're trying desperately to shut everything out, but as everyone points out, they can't make the GE closed!

they thought they didn't need to prepare long-term, didn't think they'd get a challenger, didn't even expect that there could BE challenge to a system that's serving Democrats just fine--they're still getting votes, aren't they?

the massive 2010-4 dump was a fluke: their plan was PERFECT, it's not their fault that the voters didn't go for it!

Tue May 3, 2016, 04:05 AM

In the primary you tell Independents, the largest voting block, you don't have any choice of who the nominee will be.

Then in the General, you want them to vote for the nominee after telling Independents they had no right to choose. Think about that?

Really? What a way to build the party for the future. DWS has got to go.

Lost a bunch of House seats, the Senate, 12 governorships and over 900 state seats while Chair of the DNC
Supported Republicans over Democrats in two Florida districts
Conceded entire districts to the Louis Gohmerts and Joni Ernsts of this world by abandoning the 50-state strategy
Supported a Republican retread for the Florida Democratic Party Gubernatorial candidate (he lost to Rick Scott, again)
Undermined President Obama's treaty with Iran
Shilled for the private prison industry
Shilled for the booze industry
Shilled for the payday loan industry
Blamed the voters for her failures
