2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumI cordially invite all Hillary supporters and rational Democrats
to the General Discussion forum.
With the certain knowledge that Donald fucking Trump is the GOP nominee, we can't waste any more time on this ridiculous infighting. The primary is over (yes, yes, you can all vote, please, have at it! Vote like the wind!) and Hillary is our candidate. Let's turn our attention to the real enemy.
We have the opportunity to land the KILLING BLOW to the Republican Party. We CANNOT be complacent - Hillary has a MUCH better chance to win than Trump, but we can't take ANY chances. That racist fascist in the White House is simply not acceptable.
Let's start honing our strategy to beat him in November. And let's talk about downticket races as well!
GDP just seems so ridiculous now in light of this new development. Trump is a certainty now, and he is certainly going to be running his GE campaign from TODAY. Let's do the same and kill the stereotype of the Dems fighting like cats between themselves and never being able to compromise enough to work together.
Anyway, I'll be over there. Hope to see you there!

(19,877 posts)Fuck's sake, I'd happily vote for a ficus plant over Donald fucking Trump (I can't seem to type his name without adding "fucking" in the middle there, sorry).
This is serious now, people. You want to squabble like children about whose candidate is better on college tuition? TRUMP WANTS TO WATCH THE WORLD BURN. Get your heads out of your butts!

(36,649 posts)They can tag-team her until the cows come home & she'll still win. The only question now is how foolish are Trump & Sanders willing to look.

(1,359 posts)I'm pretty new here, but that seems like a pretty big TOS violation to me.
Primary season is always awful on DU, and this year is particularly horrific. It is actually a useful resource at other times, believe it or not. When the primary is over, people who advocate for Trump or 3rd party candidates will be summarily banned. Cannot come soon enough for me.
Welcome to DU!

(1,163 posts)Nothing and I mean nothing sucks more than the party leadership and PTB shoving a shitty candidate down our throats.
This will be the utter and bitter end of the party if something doesn't change.
If it comes down to superdelegates being willing to destroy an already severely crippled, heavily co-opted party, by going with a candidate linked to an FBI investigation, I'm done with it.

(29,236 posts)As well as those of us who are continuing to volunteer for the far better candidate against tRump. But it would please many of us if y'all who think there's no more contest shuffle off into GD, so please do carry on there.

(10,476 posts)We have a thing called a calendar, and not every state gets to go at the beginning of it. Sometimes that means the states near the end are more or less irrelevant to the nomination process. You'll still get to vote, Sanders still ants to pile up as many delegates as possible, but don't delude yourself or others into thinking the nomination is still up for grabs.

(10,476 posts)If there's only one person still contesting the race, it's no longer really a race. Hillary is turning to g.e. mode, I'd be surprised if she namedrops Sanders at all in future stump speeches.

(80,708 posts)I've known for a long time she was very likely to be the nominee.
But I also think Sanders is doing all of us, and the conversation, and ABSOLUTELY Hillary Clinton, a favor by staying in as long as possible.

(80,708 posts)We should change the system whereby the same states get an early shot at influencing the process. It should be random, or rotated.

(10,476 posts)California was a part of Super Tuesday in 2008, for example.

(80,708 posts)California changed, and then changed it back again.
Beyond that, every 4 years pretty much the same batch goes first.
They should all rotate, and that includes Iowa and New Hampshire. There is nothing magical about those two pieces of the electorate.

(10,559 posts)Thank you for your kind attempt to reach out, but it's not over until it's over, and I support Bernie Sanders.
I can only suggest you start by working to convince people she isn't a liar and that putting Bill in charge of trade is a good idea.
Good luck!
ON EDIT: And implying I am not "rational" because I don't agree with you is rude.

(1,017 posts)No point in running around like Chicken Little , no need to worry , Sanders has this covered.
Bluenorthwest
(45,319 posts)right here with me. Our neighbor to the South, California is the most populous State and they vote next month. Not only do both major candidates need turnout, those down-ticket races need turnout. Currently Camp Clinton claims to be strong on coattails for candidates but this routine of claiming an ongoing election is already concluded is not helpful to those other candidates and is fact is detrimental to them.
Hundreds of dedicated Democratic volunteers are working hard to get people to show up and vote. I sure don't see messages like yours as helpful to those volunteers.

(7,231 posts)what part of this rather essential condition for a GE fight do you consider negligeable?
And by the way: the "but but Trump; be afraid be very afraid" line has been used so many times in the past months that it's impact has rather dulled by now.
