And Trump will use that friendship to defeat her, "you better believe it" as Trump would say.
They go way back. In fact, Trump donated not only to her Senate and Presidential campaigns, but gave millions to the Clinton Foundation. She and Bill attended his 3rd wedding in 2005. Trump supported her in the 2008 primary against Obama and even wrote an op-Ed that Obama was stupid for not picking her for the VP position.
In fact, Hillary's spokesperson affirmed their personal relationship when Trump supposedly hurt Hillary's feelings by distancing their relationship during the Republican Debate in Cleveland.

Hillary Clinton, I said be at my wedding, and she came to my wedding, the reality-star-turned-politician said at the first GOP presidential debate in Cleveland. She had no choice because I gave to a foundation.
...
Then-Sen. Hillary Clinton was present at Trumps 2005 wedding to model Melania Knauss - and Clinton and her husband attended the reception together.
Just this week, Trump came under fire for a private telephone conversation with President Bill Clinton that took place just weeks before Trump announced his candidacy.
I gave to many people before this, Trump said at the debate today. When they call, I give. And you know what, when I need something from them two years later, three years later, I call them. They are there for me.
His comments came in response to an attack from rival Sen. Rand Paul.
Youve donated to several Democratic candidates. You explained away those donations saying you did that to get business-related affairs, Paul said. And you said recently, quote, when you give, they do whatever the hell you want them to do.
You better believe it, Trump responded.
The Clinton campaign spokeswoman Jennifer Palmieri said Trumps comment hurts Sec. Clintons feelings.
He invited her. Theyre acquaintances. This is long, long established, she said. It hurt her feelings, Im sure, to hear him suggest that he didnt actually want her there for her company

(154,021 posts)Do not get in just for fun. Every one of then will be President. Yup, that includes Donald J Trump. Though people have been underestimating him all the time.
At this point this is both adorable and quite scary

(188 posts)Hillary was the Senator from NY
For Trump it made sense to contribute to her and invite her to the wedding
What was in it for her?

(19,326 posts)Bill advised Trump to run in the first place. The American electorate is being
played for fools; being set-up for a fake General Election resembling a well
choreographed mash-up of Hunger Games and a Punch & Judy Show.

(17,064 posts)Trump is the anti-establishment candidate in a year of voter anger. Clinton is the very epitome of corrupt establishment. The GOP will rally behind Trump...McCain and Romney weren't popular with Republican voters either, but they turned out. Trump has already positioned himself to Clinton's left on several populist issues, he shouldn't be underestimated. Nominating a Drmocratic candidate with baggage carries a lot of risk.

(20,582 posts)I honestly believe Trump didn't think he'd get this far and question whether he even really, really wants to be President. Soooo .... I've wondered if this was some sort of strategy between them to ensure Clinton gets in. Didn't Bill encourage him to run?

I know it will never happen.
Because they are both New York residents which would make it unconstitutional.

(19,326 posts)Bill actually advised Trump to do this, prior to Trump's announced candidacy. And
that's just what we DO know.
The whole thing is mostly a charade and it's happening right under the noses of
the electorate, an electorate that is being seriously "played".
