Related: About this forumSusan Sarandon: I’m more afraid of Hillary’s war record than Trump’s wall
Susan Sarandon once again evicerates Hillary on the Colbert show:
https://www.rawstory.com/2016/04/susan-sarandon-im-more-afraid-of-hillarys-war-record-than-trumps-wall/
She suggested Sanders could win the Democratic nomination at a contested convention on the strength of his ideas.
Were going to have to have a contested one, and whats going to happen is that people are going to have to discuss the whole process and the platform, and really listen to people that theyre not normally listening to, Sarandon said.
The actress has drawn criticism for suggesting she would rather see Donald Trump elected than Hillary Clinton, if Sanders fails to win the Democratic presidential nomination but she claimed her words were taken out of context.
Wait a minute I said some people say (Trump would bring the revolution faster), Sarandon said. Im more afraid of, actually, Hillary Clintons war record and her hawkishness than I am of building a wall, but that doesnt mean that I would vote for Trump.

(55,981 posts)to back the continuation of the DLC Clinton/Gore by nominating Gore blew it and looked for a scape goat. Someone that had every right to run for president. Apparently it doesn't matter that millions of eligible voters stayed home because they didn't like the choice, doesn't matter that Jeb Bush and the Republicon Party manipulated the Florida voting, and it doesn't matter that the SCOTUS took unconstitutional action to appoint Bush. Nope the nitwits blame Nader.

No, Nadir is in a class of his own and deserves what ever place in hell that he will rest.
So tired of the Hillary was a Republican meme. But of course we can't bring up anything Bernie did, wrote or said even into his 30s.

Would you still vote for Hillary if she helped murder white people from England, Germany, or California instead of Iraq or Libya?
Dr Hobbitstein
(6,568 posts)Is Qadaffi a dictator in England, Germany, or Cali? If so, yes. Seeing as the US govt didn't have troops in Libya.
I was against the 2nd Iraq War. Hillary made a bad call there, and I've said such before. But I'm not a single issue voter.
cpwm17
(3,829 posts)Would you still vote for Hillary if she had helped destroy Great Britain and ruin the lives of countless white people?
Libyans had the best standard of living in Africa before Qaddafi was taken out. Qaddafi needed to stay.
Dr Hobbitstein
(6,568 posts)It resulted in taking a terrible murderous fuck out of power. I'm cool with that. It wasn't racism. There was a HUGE uproar in Libya (Arab Spring, remember?). We helped NATO troops.
I don't weep for Qadaffi. If the British Prime Minister started executing Britons because they were the wrong religion or dissented, I would want him out of power, too.
You have a hard on for making this about race.
cpwm17
(3,829 posts)Taking out Qaddafi has been a disaster, and so has the unprovoked war again Iraq, which Hillary strongly supported. In the real world those are war crimes and they are also mass-murder, which should disqualify anyone from being president.
If Hillary was involved in the mass-murder against white people, she wouldn't be considered for president.
Dr Hobbitstein
(6,568 posts)The only one making this about race is you.
cpwm17
(3,829 posts)Mass-murder: no big deal, let's make her president.
The lives of those people in Iraq and Libya must not mean anything to you. What property do they possess that makes their lives so unimportant to you?
Dr Hobbitstein
(6,568 posts)But you know that. Are you really saying that NATO shouldn't have helped out a country that was rebelling against a murderous dictator (Qadaffi)?
cpwm17
(3,829 posts)People are responsible. Hillary was in the Senate and enthusiastically supported that aggressive war. Hillary is responsible for her crime.
Hillary helped destroy Libya. As I wrote earlier, the Libyans had the highest standard of living in Africa with Qaddafi in charge. Now it's a disaster area.
You call Qaddafi a murderous dictator, but you don't seem to have much of a problem with mass-murderers in the US government. You are very selective on what murderers you care about.

but you feel comfortable sitting this one out. And joined this discussion just to say that.
Given a choice, I'll take a middle of the road Dem over "a fascist-maniac" any day of the week.
I can possibly survive another middle of the road Dem.
I doubt many of us will survive "a fascist-maniac" with his finger on the nuclear trigger.
Must be nice, though, not feeling at all threatened by the possibility of "a fascist-maniac" in the White House. Whereas I know, if he's elected, chances are people like me will be beaten in the streets. Hell, I can't even show at a Trump rally without risking a beating. Funny, I don't feel that same sense of danger at a Hillary rally.
But by all means, sit this one out. You can tell your grandchildren how you refused to help stop a "fascist maniac" from holding supreme executive power, because couldn't be bothered to show up and vote.
It's misinformation like this that cause people to back away from Sanders supporters.
Hillary did not refuse 15.00 an hour minimum wage. It's a state issue. Federal would be at least 12.00 to begin with and states could go to 15.00 or whatever they think they could afford without putting people out of business.
She would try to convince Congress that free tuition for two year public colleges would be the way to go. After two years, if college suited the enrolled, they could work a certain number of hours a week for tuition. It would be a good responsible action. Not free, but good.
She wants regulations that work for banks and places where pensions are invested.
She is NOT for privatization of prisons.
She believes the death penalty should be only for horrendous crimes against people where there is absolutely NO doubt, only proof of guilt.
She is a strong Democrat and has been since her teen years. She has belonged to the party forever, and worked for the people, making a huge difference for many. She has never been an Independent.
You don't have to like her, or vote for her, but lying about her doesn't make her look bad, it could, however, cast aspersions on you.

We get it, you hate Clinton. And don't feel at all personally threatened by the possibility of a Trump presidency.
Some of us here don't have that luxury.
BTW, I voted for Bernie in my state's primary. But if Clinton is the nominee, I'll crawl over cut glass to cast my vote for her.
But that's just me. You do--or don't do--what you feel right. Just don't expect me to raise a big cheer for someone who chooses NOT to oppose someone as foul, as racist and sexist, as Trump.

(8,037 posts)I like how she fought for the nutrition program for children living in poverty. That alone is a big plus for me. It has benefited millions of kids over the course of very many years. That may not mean much to you, but it means quite a lot to people I know personally.
She voted for the Ledbetter law, which helps women in the work place. Again, probably doesn't mean much to you.
She supports paid maternal leave.
She's strongly pro-choice.
She's worked to include people of color in her campaign and in her state department. Look at her rallies. Compare them to Trump events. Hell, compare them to most of Bernie's. Ever wonder why so many African Americans support Clinton?
Anyway, like I said, I supported Bernie in my primary, so your crack about me "enjoying conservative economics" is way off the mark.
But if it comes down to a choice between Clinton and Trump, there's no way I'll sit this out.
The fact that you feel so comfortable on your moral high ground just tells me you're one of the elite who doesn't feel at all threatened by the prospect of a "fascist maniac" -- in your own words -- appointing judges, including Supreme Court judges, issuing executive orders, and controlling the entire apparatus of the federal executive. YOU don't feel threatened by a Trump presidency that would empower racists, misogynists, and anti-Latino violence. YOU are privileged enough to be able to say "a pox on both your houses" as if nothing Trump will do will hurt you personally.
Unfortunately I, and millions of others like me, don't have that luxury.
And I'm not "center right." Someone telling me they can't see the danger of a "fascist maniac" in the White House comes closer to being "center right" than me or any of the people I support. Actually, far right might be more accurate.
I've been through this drill before. I remember "progressives" telling me there was no difference between Reagan and Carter. I remember "progressives" telling me there was no difference between Gore and Dubya. Both of those were supposed to be "lesser of two evils" choices. But both Reagan and Bush II were disasters for everything progressives are supposed to hold dear.
Trump will be exponentially worse. The single most important thing any progressive can do now is to work as much as they can to keep Trump out of office. I'd prefer Bernie be the Democratic nominee, but if voting for Clinton is what I have to do to keep Trump out of office, then so be it.
