2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumPivoting to the GE is a brilliant campaign strategy for Hillary.
it allows her to go on the attack in a way she could never have with Bernie.
it frames the national discussion as Hillary vs Trump rather than Hillary vs Bernie, making Bernie seem almost irrelevant.
it forces people to really really imagine Trump in the oval office and on Air Force One, and she is the Only Hope to stop him.
it brings people back to reality instead of dreams of unicorns.
Brilliant.

(1,729 posts)And I also believe that folks in the primaries can only attack so much without actually attacking the principles they share in common. Despite what everyone says about Hillary being a Republican, the reality is that she and Trump have vastly different policies and styles and this is going to be a General Election for the ages. If anyone thinks Hillary's going to go down without a hard fight, they haven't been paying attention all these years.

(12,769 posts)I am for a habitable climate. Hillary supports fracking and hasn't doesn't see climate change as a priority.
I am for a fair justice system. Hillary takes money from private prison CEOs.
I am for an equitable economic system. Hillary thinks $12 an hour is equitable wages and refuses to acknowledge that productivity gains have translated into less jobs and higher wages only for CEO's.
I am for an educated society. Communications has gotten cheaper which should mean education should be cheaper instead the reverse has happened. Unlike Bernie, Hillary refuses to take college debt seriously.
I believe Health care not health insurance should be a human right. Hillary doesn't thinks insurance companies have a right to make money off of people's illnesses and fear of getting sick.
I believe we are still a nation that thinks live are important helps people needing it. Hillary sends kids back to dangerous countries where they have been killed.
And where exactly does Trump stand on all these issues? You tell me. Does anybody know?

(31,700 posts)The ad features a lineup of prominent Republican leaders blasting Donald Trump for one thing or another. The biggest problem is that these are precisely the people Trump just steamrolled. Attacking Donald Trump is admittedly not easy. But surely Clintons team can do better than to stitch together clips of failed candidates reciting failed talking points.
One wonders who in the world the ad is trying to appeal to. Does it appeal to Republican voters that already rejected these losers for Trump? Will this ad appeal to liberal voters who rightfully loathe these racists, bigots, and .001% blowhards?

(31,700 posts)Honestly, the ad is a pretty good ad FOR Trump.

(1,729 posts)I think both the new ads sum up exactly who he is, how he's wrong, and how even the right wing can't stand him. I think they're great. I've worked in marketing and at ad agencies for years. This was well done. It's designed to scare people about how crazy trump is. It certainly nails that.

(1,729 posts)... and also going for disaffected Republicans. I just can't wait till folks realize that the Berd is out of the game and we can get to focussing on the real threat, which clearly Hillary is already doing.

(1,446 posts)I only heard his name twice...and not a single mention on the local news (the day after he won a primary!).
He is going to have to fight to stay relevant, and the more he fights, the more he looks desperate. Also, the more annoying he becomes, the less likely that he will have any leverage with the Democratic Party at the convention...if that is what he is holding out for. It will be fun to watch the establishment (and all those super delegates) get more and more p**sed at him the longer he stays in the race.

Sorry if that seems boring, but it's something we shouldn't keep ignoring and enabling.

She can't attack Trump on issues because no one knows where he stands on most.

"it brings people back to reality instead of dreams of unicorns." Sad day when dreaming of helping the 2.5 million homeless American children is called wanting a unicorn. Goldman-Sachs won't help them but some apparently don't care. Happy with the "reality" of the status quo.
