(12,689 posts)Sanders is toast. That is if the media doesn't try to cover this up.

(28,876 posts)Impressive. Maybe you can quote the part where Sanders was mentioned?

(10,005 posts)a question of was money involved.
That legislation was passed by Congress a year before he was elected to the House. There are zero EB-5 supported ventures in Burlington and zero evidence that Sanders has ever or would ever take money from people like that.
You have zero evidence or any sources to support your claim.

(8,893 posts)This is very much a scandal and Bernie Sanders does have a connection to the Jay Peak venture in that he was one of dozens of public officials that endorsed and promoted or had a connection to it.
I was mistaken in that regard so I apologize for saying he had no connection as that is not true.
That being said, this article makes no mention of Sanders ever having taken a donation from either man or their spouses. A quick check on the FEC website verifies that Sanders did not receive any money from them. Since he does not nor ever had a SuperPAC, that would not have happened ever. No state or federal officials are suspected of taking any kick-backs or illegal donations as a component of the indictment filled.
That being said I will admit I think it's a bad PR move to not get out in front of this and make a statement.
There are a lot of articles about this, the one you choose is the least informative of them all.
I agree it's a fair issue to discuss but your headline is way over the top.

(8,976 posts)You pick an op-ed by the vice president of the Ethan Allen Institute? Wiki:
Mission[edit]
The organization's stated mission "is to influence public policy in Vermont by helping its people to better understand and put into practice the fundamentals of a free society: individual liberty, private property, competitive free enterprise, limited government, strong local communities, personal responsibility, and expanded opportunity for human endeavor."[5]
History[edit]
EAI was founded in 1993 by John McClaughry. He served as EAI's President from 1993 to 2009, and as acting President during 2010. Currently he is EAI's Vice President and editor of EAI's Ethan Allen Letter. Educated as a physicist and nuclear engineer, he later served as a senior policy advisor in Ronald Reagans presidential campaign of 1980, and subsequently in the White House Office of Policy Development until March 1982. McClaughry also served in the Vermont House of Representatives and Vermont State Senate. In 1992, he was the Republican candidate for Governor, ultimately losing to incumbent Democrat Howard Dean.[6]
The hit piece mentions Leahy and Shumlin by name but never is Sanders mentioned. You've got a lot of balls to call yourself a democrat.

(10,005 posts)How Jay Peak's Alleged Ponzi Scheme Exploited A Growth Plan Once Championed By Bernie Sanders.
The most popular sport in America is complaining about the federal government. What you are seeing here is a marriage and partnership between private business and federal, state and local government. Those were Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders words in October 2012 when it came to a once-glittering economic development plan to revive the northeast part of his state.
A bi-partisan partnership between private business and federal, state and local government to be sure, but also allegedly a sophisticated multi-million dollar Ponzi scheme, according to a 52-count complaint unsealed Thursday by the Securities and Exchange Commission.
The alleged Ponzi scheme ties an EB-5 investor program championed by Jay Peak Ski Resort, a popular 78-trail mountain in Vermonts Northeast Kingdom, which raised over $350 million from foreign investors to expand its facilities and create local jobs. The EB-5 program, supported by the State of Vermont and both of its Senators, Bernie Sanders and Patrick Leahy, offered foreigners the opportunity to invest between $500,000 to $1 million in developments that projected returns of 2% to 6% and a pathway to U.S. citizenship within two years.
