2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumI just got a call from the DNC and I'm PISSED!!
They asked for me by name and offered me a membership if I would only make a starting donation of $150.
Where did they get my name?
She was a nice young lady, so I kept it down, but she heard exactly why I'm not voting for Hillary.

(9,748 posts)Which meant I got a new card once a year and a survey every month asking that I include more money with my reply. Every month on "rank the topics from 1 to 10 with 1 being the most important" question I wasted my time writing "why is labor still not a topic?"
I eventually dropped my membership.

(643 posts)What is odd is how few donation posts seem to be made by HRC supporters. Guess when they have millions upon millions in Super Pacs (which she'll fight to end the policy- after the election) those little donations aren't as necessary.

(37,748 posts)Mere phone calls and simple requests piss many people off. Though it seems somewhat irrational to allow one's emotions to be so quickly easily manipulated buy others, but if it allows us an opportunity to righteously scream at the wall, I can see the temptation there.
MineralMan
(146,286 posts)I had a little trouble understanding the person on the phone, and Caller ID said, Unknown Caller, but I let the nice Microsoft Windows person have access to my computer. Apparently the problem was very serious, and now my computer doesn't work, so I'm posting this from my backup notebook PC.
I'm hopeful the nice man with the charming accent will call back soon and continue to assist me. There are some files on that computer that I really need for a project I've been working on. I'm sure it will all work out OK, though. Microsoft Windows Security wouldn't mess things up and then leave me hanging, right?
I don't know how he got my number, either.
Good for you, though for not yelling at or cursing at that young lady from the DNC too much. What I usually do is call such people vile names and threaten to change my party to American Independent. Then, I slam the phone down and post about it on every online venue I can find.
Oh, wait...none of that is true. If I get unsolicited calls like that, I say, "Oh, I'm sorry. I can't donate right now."

(8,168 posts)I've never thought about getting angry at Democrats calling me and then posting it on a democratic site.

(146,286 posts)asking for donations. I don't have any money to spare right now, so I have to politely decline. The people who call seem to understand the problem. I'm sure they'll continue to call, right up until the November election.
I typically don't donate money. Instead, I do canvassing, since I often have more time than funds I don't need for necessities. I don't explain that to the callers though. Being polite seems best, since I'm sure they get lots of angry answers from people who don't want to be disturbed with donation requests.
Telephone fundraising is not much fun, really. It's necessary, though, I guess.

(10,133 posts)I ask the caller for their credit card number. They hang up quickly. I don't know what I'll do if anyone actually gives me a number- probably forget it within minutes.

They are out of their damn minds

(57,936 posts)A Hillary supporter really doesn't care enough to get upset about the corruption in the DNC.
A Bernie supporter does.
I'm a Bernie supporter and I will not donate to the DNC or any of the associated groups until Bernie is the president and we start tackling the corruption in D.C.
My husband is on the same page.
That's what this primary is about, and it is only just beginning.
I am a life-long, active, campaigner for the Democratic Party, but the corruption I have seen this year in my Party is terrible.
Feel the Bern!

(30,247 posts)What's the bloody big deal about getting a call from the DNC? No one forced her to participate or donate any money. I get calls all the time from charities, pollsters and various companies trying to sell me something. If I'm going to blow a gasket every time I get an unwanted call I'm going to stroke out.

(9,527 posts)Do you need us to call the Red Cross or some other aid organization to set up a fundraiser or can you make do with just a Gofundme account? I'm sure Bono would be happy to play a benefit concert for you.
In all sincerity if that is enough to get you so angry that you want a pat on the head for not cursing the person on the phone, you might want to consider taking up meditation or something to calm down.

Nope, just not supporting her, and when the great purge comes or whatever you Hillarity supporters seek, I won't bother with saying I "told you so " due to her loss in the general. What a piss poor candidate she is.

(786 posts)If so why would that be? Bernie Sanders has not dropped out. Or did you basically say that you wanted to make sure that your money went directly to your candidate of choice which is Bernie Sanders, so you will send your donations to him if that is who you support..

(68,552 posts)I have volunteered for the DNC for years...we never ask for specific amounts of money...you join the Democratic party...it has always been a $10.00 donation- you can sign up online. The DNC sends you a card...sounds like you were the victim of a scam or...I don't know...because your facts don't add up if one knows anything about the process.

(15,435 posts)on my desk that I've received over the past 3 months, but I've ignored them all. Everyone asking me to renew my membership. Even before this rash of new requests I've sent other requests back to them asking them NOT to send me anything else. Still they keep coming.
I've been getting weekly calls asking for donations and KEEP TELLING them no. Yesterday I got a "recorded call" telling me I'll soon be receiving a "packet" to do canvassing and asking for help. Sooooooo I guess THAT will be in the mail soon too! I stopped donating quite some time ago when I saw how THIS Democratic Party leaning so much to the RIGHT. And NOW having seen how they've done everything to ignore and stop Bernie I'm s turned off! They've even sent me two "special commemorative pictures" of the Obama's as a special gift for my long time support! WHOOPEE!!!
I had started a general letter to send to every request I've gotten, but decided it would be useless because I'll keep getting "stuff." I decided not to renew my membership with them over a year ago.
I wonder when it will dawn on them that many DEMOCRATS are fed up and are waiting until after this election to change affiliation. I live in Florida so to vote in Primaries I have to remain a Democrat, we have another Primary coming up to choose our Senators, Representatives etc., and I WANT TO VOTE for Tim Canova.
If I want to donate it will go directly to the candidate and NOT to the Party! I know Debbie Wasserman Schultz ISN'T going to help Canova with any money to help him out!
The Democratic Party seems not to understand that many of us no longer feel they're on our side. And yesterday after I heard about All the people who will be running the Convention & Rules Committee I really was astounded. Even Republican Lobbyist are included and OF COURSE the CEO of Comcast!
Kind of outraged now!

(60,334 posts)Did you register to vote or vote as Democrat in a recent election?
Voting scrolls are made available to the candidates and parties as well as other organizations. They know which party you voted if you voted in a primary election and they use that to build the list of who they will call in November to get out the vote.
They don't tell you how to vote in November as much as they are banking on the fact that if you voted Democratic in the primary, you most likely will vote Democratic in the General.
I will never vote in a Republican primary for that simple reason, I don't want that group to have my name. Having worked elections, I know they will call.
