The Daily Beast: Coal Country Loves Coal-Hating Bernie Sanders

http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2016/05/05/coal-country-loves-coal-hating-bernie-sanders.html

A funny thing happened on the way to the West Virginia primary: Mountaineers decided they didn’t like the wife of a man they sent to the White House twice, and voted for in a race of her own eight years ago. Instead, they may prefer one of the most anti-coal candidates in American history.

It wasn’t always like this. In 2008—Hillary Clinton won a Democratic primary there, and by 41 points to boot. But now, oddly enough, it’s become highly amenable to Bernie Sanders.

He lost the primary in 08 by 41 points and he lost 1 in 5 primary votes in 2012 to a convicted felon who campaigned from his federal jail cell. He, of course, lost WV in the general both times by huge margins.

That's all they need to "love him". With that said, most of them will vote Republican in the general.

She was gonna close down all the coal mining operations and then she got to WV and people jumped right in the middle of her shit and she did a quick 180 and told them all how much she loved coal. Well, people aren't stupid, they know when they've been lied to and they resent the assumption that they are dumb enough to buy the flip flop.

I do! A bunch of very liberal transplants who work in tourism and outdoor recreation, HATE coal and are totally at odds with the locals on almost all issues. You might as well be in Vermont, other than the humidity.

That is a weird state. The coal companies and GOP are literally poisoning them. Democrats have done so much for them, starting with FDR. Yet they hug the GOP. I don't get it.

Hillary is running on a platform of things are going good so let's have four more years of status quo. Bernie is talking about how the working class is getting screwed by the top 1% and West Virginia contains some of the poorest areas in the country.

Maybe if people would do some research themselves, they would see that Hillary has a $30 billion plan for the coal miners. Donald Trump talked about bringing the mining jobs back. America will take natural gas over coal as cheap as its getting due to fracking. If Hillary is able to get her 500 million solar panels installed, we won't need to rely on coal even less. People who are good with tools will be needed to build, assemble and repair those solar cells. They should be built here, not made in China and imported to the US.

She thought that she could use a line similar to her husband's about the coal jobs being taken away. She should have said why they are disappearing and what her plan is to get the miners new jobs in our service economy. https://www.hillaryclinton.com/briefing/factsheets/2015/07/26/renewable-power-vision/
