He also doesn't add a state or region which she doesn't already have.
The value would not be the Bernie or bust, but the independent/new voters to whom Bernie's message resonates. Bernie suggested that the ticket would need someone who can get the independents out.
I am thinking the VP should be from a swing state whose focus or strength has been on economic inequities and worker's rights. And a trumpy attack dog.
Hillary doesn't need any gravitas or foreign policy guru and they don't even have to be very experienced. But Bernie meets very few of her needs in a VP.

(13,585 posts)demand veto power over any appointments. No more revolving door. I doubt that would be acceptable to her highness.
It could just be the usual VP gig. Not for giving up his Senate seat and power.

(7,003 posts)When has any VP had veto power over a President's appointments? Only self-entitled ideologues view Hillary as a queen. They hate that people with different opinions get to make a choice, too.
That's the exact same sentiment that baggers gave toward Barack.

(42,862 posts)I guess it's sinking-in that he's not going to be the nominee, and if he can't have what he wants, then he's bargaining for the possibility of having something else instead.
It makes more sense for Hillary to choose someone who's qualified now to accept a position that's "one-heartbeat-away" ... AND who's also going to be young enough in eight years to run and be elected as the 46th president.

(3,967 posts)There is some strategic value in nailing down the base, getting higher turnout from Democrats, youth. I also think he would help with some independents. Would not really help geographically.
As a pair, I don't think they have any interpersonal chemistry at all though. They really seem to dislike each other.

(5,443 posts)if Bernie decides to concede to Clinton (it's not over yet), and if Bernie demands that he will have a bully pulpit to promote his ideas and push the national dialogue leftwards. There is still much work to be done to create the groundwork for progressive change and it is very important that the movement not stall with the election of Clinton. There are still far too many people in the US who believe the government is incapable of promoting social good, that strong government is a bad thing, that regulations are all bad, that taxes should only be cut etc-- basically the Reagan ideology. A consistent voice for progressive ideals that actually gets heard is really needed.
For a historical perspective, machine politician McKinley chose trust-busting Teddy Roosevelt for VP, and that resulted in ushering in the progressive era.

(9,955 posts)...for discussion. He said they would get together and talk about issues when the time was right. However, I got the impression Bernie saw this as a later stage - after the nomination vote was over - and was not showing any particular interest in the VP job. MSNBC was suggesting the job more than Bernie (who was on screen) or Hillary (who had not commented that I saw). I don't think it will happen.

(5,356 posts)The minute she has a private meeting with him the rumor is going to be that she asked him to be VP and he said no because he's so pure and principled. She'd be smart to steer clear of him entirely.
But do you think Bernie would agree to be on a Trump/Sanders ticket? I think he might.
