2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumDid Hillary Clinton know she'd run for president, again?
Hillary Clinton gave paid speeches to corporations from April 2013 through March 2015.
Yesterday on "The Stephanie Miller Show," the radio host said that it was OK for Clinton to take the money because Clinton was exhausted from being Secretary of State and didn't know she'd run for president, again.
Did Clinton know she'd run again?

(38,489 posts)I can't believe that you believe that. Not for a minute.

(14,732 posts)or their closest confidantes that would let me make a categorical statement like that based on some actual fact. Otherwise, it would just be the rankest kind of wild-ass specultation, based on nothing more than "because I say so".

(2,064 posts)she felt it was owed her, just like she feels America owes her the Presidency. Greed, privilege, arrogance... that's just who Hillary is. It wasn't a mistake or an oversight. She would sell her own mother if their was a profit involved, and her supporters don't seem to understand that she wouldn't piss on them is they were on fire.
She is royalty. The 99% are peasants. Don't hold your breath waiting for her to help anyone but herself.

(2,925 posts)just know that bringing up the obama primary talking point really
does not have the sting you wish it did.

(19,926 posts)But I'm sure you knew that since you researched this. I mean you're not just spouting off some smearmongering talking point are you? Hillary supporters never do that.

Hillary began planning her presidential run the minute Bill got elected.

(42,862 posts)Unless she comes right out and says so, there's really no way to be sure ... but I think she's always known in her heart that she'd run again.

But they've been sort of open about it. Anyone who suggests she hasnt been aiming for this all along, hasnt been paying attention.

Doing it while knowingly between those jobs is legal, but has the same corrupting effect the Ethics Laws exist to prevent.

(47,803 posts)Appearances matter a lot. It looks like they were currying her favor...at the VERY least.
But I guess adding a few million more to the family boodle outweighed her political judgement. maybe she was afraiding of being Dead Broke again and they might only be worth $30 million.

Bernie Sanders, for example makes $174,000 a year in Senate salary.

(19,926 posts)and he was just generally annoying.
The thing about Stephanie recently is that she and Thom Hartmann did each other's shows to show that they were both supportive of the other candidate even though they both had their preference, Stephanie's is Hillary, Thom's is Bernie. And she always kept saying she liked Bernie but preferred Hillary and we shouldn't attack one or the other. But I guess that she only meant her callers who supported Bernie should follow that because she would let Hillary supporters go on and on about Bernie without cutting them off or trying to interject and be fair. And then she herself would also repeat talking points about Bernie that were smears/untrue after she went on and on about how she didn't do that and trying to prove how she could be fair with the Thom Hartmann thing.
I really can't stand to hear her voice now. I was already getting tired of the show because of how inarticulate she can be and her lack of knowledge and this bias of hers has made it completely unbearable.

(3,655 posts)she is in over her head. When a caller presents a real issue for which she does not have a canned response, she makes a joke and hangs up on them.

(30,058 posts)Hillary hold during the timeframe you mentioned and what would keep her from making those speeches?
oldandhappy
(6,719 posts)Yes, she knew she would run. Yes, she has been planning this campaign since 2008. She left SOS to gather resources for the second run. You have to start early to have super delegates locked up before the campaigns start and to have PACs funded before campaigns start. Yes, she knew.

(7,231 posts)In this case, she took the money and made the speech, thinking it would help her presidential campiagn (donor-wise). But then she ran for president and wanted to pretend that the money never changed anything because it was just a private event and a private appearance and ... oh look, someone tangentially connected to Sanders said something that might be spun as vaguely racist and / or sexist! Also math.
