As if voting == 100% participation and not voting == 0% participation.

Voting is important, sure. But some are belittling the other work people are currently doing to try and fix our democracy. Protests get conflated with violence, calling and writing elected officials is called harassment, running third-party candidates is deemed a waste, and being new to this party is equated with disloyalty.

That sets up an atmosphere where people get the impression that they're being forced into accepting an obviously broken system, so many will react to that by directly opposing that force and a refusal to vote should be no surprise. This place is full of posts admonishing Sanders voters that our work, donations, and activism have all been and will continue to be a waste. Some will naturally then ask the question: "Should I even bother voting?" If nobody steps up with a compelling reason then the answer for many of them will be no.

If you want to talk people into voting, step one is to stop treating them like shit.

The founders in the Constitution limited the powers of the SCOTUS. They were third in power behind the President and Congress. But a big thanks to John Marshall who took it upon himself to redefine the role of the Courts to include Judicial Review. Now the Court has "evolved" into using Judicial Review to modify laws. The SCOTUS has immense powers now that weren't originally intended. If the President or Congress do something deemed by the electorate, they can be removed by voting. There is no such safeguard for the Court. Impeachment is the only recourse.
