In Rachel Maddow's interview, she asked Sanders about the tone of some of the signage held by his supporters and how it might hurt the partys chances in November:
When I see people standing outside a Hillary Clinton event, though, holding Feel the Bern signs and then people next to them holding signs that say Liar, Liar, Liar and Hillary Clinton for Prison 2016? that is what leads to these concerns that you and Hillary Clinton, worthy as you each may be in each of your messages, wont be pulling in the same direction for the same things in November.
Sanders refused to address Maddows question about the tone of the protests but moved on:

(58,785 posts)Almost all the debates were something we could be proud of, the last a little unattractively contentious but still on the issues.
There's been some generally minor mudslinging, mostly at the frontrunner from the person behind, which of course is entirely normal and expected SOP. No sensible and experienced viewer should be shocked at that. It's how it's done, but Bernie did set limits for himself and apparently stuck to them.
The real problem is this process goes on way too long. A hungry press sadly lacking in probity needs something to say 24/7/365 for over a year just for the primary portion, and the candidates need to keep feeding them things contentious or otherwise interesting enough to keep being talked about.
Given that dysfunctional reality, I really think we should be grateful and congratulate ourselves on how well our party has done.

(5,636 posts)I backed Bernie for a long time, but too many of his supporters are assholes. When I began to read in DU about blacks being low information voters, complaints about Hillary's "cackle" and "talking too much," and complete dismissal of all those women's rights, civil rights, and gay rights activists and organizations that backed Hillary, I grew disgusted. The fact is there is not a lot of difference between the testosterone driven Sanders mob and Trump mob. That's unfair to all the wonderful Sanders supporters, but they need to be far more forceful in condemning and marginalizing the assholes in the Sanders campaign.
That said, if Sanders should somehow beat Hillary, he still deserves our vote. Sanders may not be perfect and his campaign may have some flaws, but he and his supporters even at their worst are far better than Trump and his supporters.

This Is Why Hillary Clinton Can't Tell Bernie Sanders to Drop Out
Her choices in 2008 dictate what she can say now.
But Clinton has not called on him to drop out of the race, for one simple reason: the example her own campaign set in 2008.
Eight years ago this month, Clinton was trailing hopelessly behind then-Sen. Barack Obama for the Democratic presidential nomination. On May 1, 2008, Clinton loaned her bankrupt campaign $1 million (following at least $10 million in earlier loans). Before the end of that week, pundits were calling the contest for Obama, whose May 6 win in the North Carolina primary, by 14 points, had made his delegate lead essentially insurmountable.

There are plenty of pixs and reports of Sanders fanatics shouting obscenities at Clinton supporters as they entered and left the rally, grabbed campaign posters out of the hands of Clinton supporters, and hurling insults even at small children who were there with their parents.
When pressed about this in a subsequent interview on Rachel Maddow, Sanders stated that he doesn't agree with protesters' trying to stop Clinton inside her events, but he doesn't have a problem with this fans disrupting the events from the outside of a venue.

(5,614 posts)It was the MSM's version of what happened.
No media outlet pointed out that most of those protesting HRC weren't Sanders' supporters at all but people trying to draw attention to what she has supported in Honduras and other places. And also that most were not "privileged whites" (another HRC/MSM meme) but pesky brown people who aren't happy with assassinations and repression following HRC's blunder.

Mostly because of the fake ass straw that broke the fake ass camel's back is manufactured outrage, I'm not even sure the people you find so offensive are even Sanders supporters.
In fact that is too mild, I have no such information. Every one with a problem with Clinton is not under Sanders' umbrella. Yes, there are even people, even brown people who have some legitimate beefs with Clinton and might transfer that to her supporters too.
I here tell that there were folks protesting her stands and actions on Honduras, I bet some folks in that group might be really fiery and Bernie Sanders has no control over them, their anger is completely independent of his existence much less his candidacy
Further, if they are so what is Sanders to do about random asshole supporters, Hillary has some nasty, wrong-headed, mean spirited, condescending asshole supporters that make me want to fucking puke but they have little or nothing to do with my poems with her.

(12,265 posts)Although she will be the nominee, if it were Bernie I would work for him. I would not be a happy camper, but the alternative is to lose the Supreme Court for 30 years and possibly the House and Senate for that long. Not to mention the Trump issue.

(9,313 posts)Out of millions who voted for him, how many do you think the people acting like assholes represent? 0.001% more? less?
How is Sanders responsible for their actions?

(9,313 posts)... I was out there protesting. Proudly. Along with Citizen Action, Congressman Frank Pallone, and many other groups and prominent individuals.
Here's the DU post about it (pics no longer in OP, there are some in Reply #55)
80 DUers replied. 100% applauding.
Would you really have had Sanders say anything else about protesting outside a political event?
Really?

Of course pay no attention to the point of the protest, which was Clinton's support for anti-Latino policies and violence in Latin America. Pay no attention to the fact that there was no unifying political motive beyond that - the event brought in Bernie supporters, yes - but also brown berets, la raza, anarchists, Native activists... it was a pretty intersectional crowd. Welcome to East LA.
Reminds me of how when Black Lives Matter challenge or question the clintons, clinton supporters totally dismiss them as "irrelevant screaming bullies"
On top of the open, naked antisemitism of Clinton supporters.
And the anti-black racism and islamophobia evident from her crowd in 2008.
What I see is that Clinton supporters really get their asses in a bunch when nonwhite people dare criticize or challenge her on any level.

Keep an open mind for something similar to happen here.
