Just because these people want to run for president, doesn't mean they shouldn't be doing their jobs. I don't care who it is.
They should be forced to resign before running unless they can perform.

I'm mad at Bernie, Hillary, Obama and all politicians that waste our tax dollars.
It just happens to be Bernie right now neglecting his job and getting paid for nothing.

(2,550 posts)Politicians could go without pay if they're not going to do their jobs such as Sanders.
If this was February, I'd say he could win and go without pay, but after March he has no real path. Just wasting other people's money.

(45,065 posts)office has missed votes. I understand something alright, namely what you are doing. What money is donated to Bernie from his supporters is not your money so mind your own business and find something else to bitch about. I will reach my max monthly donation to Bernie in June and I consider it the best money I have ever spent.

(7,318 posts)We've made ourselves comfortable right here in your thread and are looking forward to seeing the stats on Senator Clinton's voting record while she was running for president in 2008.
You're able to post in GDP, because it's still the Dem's PPP season. A comparison of Senator Clinton's taxpayer $$ versus her missed Senate votes is a worthwhile pursuit. Thanks for the thread!

(6,282 posts)Hillary missed a ton of votes, as did Obama. I'm sure you just forgot to criticize them for missing votes on the campaign, though. I understand.

(45,319 posts)Sens. Marco Rubio (Fla.), Lindsey Graham (S.C.) and Ted Cruz (Texas) missed more roll call votes during 2015 than any other senators, according to data released this week from C-SPAN. Rubio has the worst attendance record, missing 35 percent, or 120 of the 339 roll votes, during the past year, according to GovTrack.
Comparatively, Hillary Clinton, the front-runner for the Democratic presidential nomination, missed 23 percent of the Senate's roll call votes during the same point in the 2008 presidential election, according to GovTrack. Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), who won the Republican nomination, missed 56 percent.
Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), a Democratic presidential candidate, missed 8 percent of the Senate's roll call votes in 2015.

"Theyve all missed a lot of votes well, all except Sen. Rand Paul who is close to the Senate-wide median of 1.1%. Rubio takes the lead here at 26% of votes missed, with Graham (20%) and Cruz (20%) not far behind. Sanders, who is still considered a long-shot, missed 11% of votes. They were all eligible to vote in 379 votes. Clinton missed 13% of votes in the corresponding one-year time period that, like today, was 378 days ahead of the 2008 election.
As youll see next, our sitting president missed even more votes than the current candidates when he ran for office."

I didn't hold it against Senator Clinton in 2008. But maybe you have nothing substantial to post idk.

(16,230 posts)But it's ambiguous as to who was casting the vote. It almost reads like some poor schmuck had to pay thousands of dollars for the right to vote.
The actual post makes it a little clearer: It's taxpayers; plural, not singular, and it's Bernie casting the vote. But even that's misleading since the $43,500 is his salary not a bribe, which could be inferred for the subject line; plus it ignores the voting records of other presidential candidates and also ignores the nature of the votes he missed. Were they procedural votes or were they votes for actual bills, and were they situations where his vote would have made a difference?
These kinds of information free political smears are one of the biggest problems with our political system, and just about everyone does it.

(9,313 posts)According to information at votesmart.org
Sanders Missed 9 of 31 key votes in the 12 month period from March 2015 to April 2016 (missed 29%)
Clinton missed 43 of 90 key votes in the 12 month period from May 2007 to June 2008 (missed 48%)
So, just curious, what percentage missed votes before you start "docking" pay?

My Mom and I were just commiserating on our Mother's Day call (she's still in VT). The Universal Healthcare item is huge for her; if we had it, she'd semi-retire and work only as a substitute teacher and my dad would diddle around working on various Harley's for people and spend half their time down in FL with me and half in VT with my sister and other family. It took me a long time to convince her that single payer was a good idea. Now, that it was dangled in their faces, and pulled abruptly, she's quite upset about it. How nice it would be to have my parents enjoy their golden years... What a shame this country can't have nice things.
