Just To Cut The Crap, WV does NOT have an Open Primary (Original Post) berni_mccoy May 2016 OP
Thanks. nt Smarmie Doofus May 2016 #1
It is open to independents. yallerdawg May 2016 #2

19% is surprisingly low, but is still plenty enough to affect the results. (n/t) thesquanderer May 2016 #25

...as he's basically running unopposed. Seems like a wasted vote, if you have any inclination to vote in the contest that is (barely) still going on. Or just stay home. Going out to vote for Trump is just a statement at this point... but I guess that's enough.

Now that he is the sole candidate, the focus for Trump supporters in the remaining states would be to raise his total votes above hers.

That double standard where you have this:

If you are registered in any party, you get the ballot for that party. If you are registered unaffiliated or, in MA, "unenrolled," you can get any ballot you name. Semi closed.

I have voted on the Republican ballot a couple times myself. He said the Republican line was so long he was in line
a 1/2 hour and he also had the I voted sticker on his shirt. What I read is you must register by April 19th it says that is the deadline for registration is says nothing about you can't change today. If that is not the case maybe he registered as a Republican. I heard the same
argument about voting in Ohio and know I was right. The day I voted in Ohio there were 3 people that I heard say they were Democrats that changed their registration to Republican to vote Trump. I also heard there were many people that voted Republican today that had never voted before in their life

Does my political party matter in the primary election?

As a voter, your political party makes a difference when you vote in the primary election because it determines which ballot you may receive. If you are registered with one of the four recognized political parties (Democratic, Libertarian, Mountain, or Republican), you may only vote that party’s ballot or the non-partisan ballot. If you are registered with any other party or with no party, you may ask the poll worker for one of the recognized party’s ballots, or they will give you the non-partisan ballot.

Your friend may have registered as having no party preference.

back before April 19th. That was only 3 weeks ago. He is a retired coal miner he told me had always voted Democrat but voted Republican today. He said he just can't let Hillary Clinton in office because she said she would put a lot of coal miners and coal companies out of business. I did mention he could vote for Bernie Sanders and he said sanders is a Socialist we have had enough of that the last 8 years.

Even when you try to explain Republicans would have had to have changed their party affiliation by April 19 - when they still had a race - in order to perform "Operation Chaos."

You know where you CAN perform Operation Chaos? In the Deep South. Those are truly open primaries.
