ON EDIT: This is pretty serious stuff. I feel confident that DU can put aside all the Bernie-Hillary squabbling and rally together to spread the word about this dangerous meme. Thanks!Warning: "Bernie Glowstick Instructions" meme is trying to get people hospitalized or killed.

These are not instructions for glowsticks, they're instructions for making a chlorine bomb.
A meme shared on Tumblr and Reddit instructs people to mix household chemicals together in order to make a glowstick.
Except the instructions are lifted from a how-to guide for making a chlorine bomb out of common chemicals. This device overpressurizes its container and explodes. The explosion releases deadly chlorine gas which when inhaled, interacts with the water in mucus membranes to transform into hydrochloric acid. It causes chemical burns in the throat, eyes, and lungs. It has been used as a chemical weapon for just over 100 years, and was first introduced by the German Empire at the second battle of Ypres in 1915, and most recently used by terrorists in Iraq and Syria who were targeting civilians with makeshift devices such as the one described in this meme.
Ive removed the actual instructions for the device because some people are stupid and might try to see what would happen if they made one of these.
Please make sure that if you see someone sharing this meme, you explain that its a trap.

(1,163 posts)I think it's done at the direction of people paid by her campaign or PACs.
One way or the other, she needs to speak up.

(62,444 posts)And I'm curious to know specifically the federal or state statute involved.
And that would be on the assumption that the perpetrators are situated in the US in the first place.

(18,115 posts)I'd have to research and find relevant statutes. Is making a chlorine bomb legal? I've honestly never dealt with such an activity.

Seriously, that million dollar online campaign to pay trolls to troll just hit a Hitleresque level of evil.
I wish I could say I'm surprised.
Damn.

(9,704 posts)There is simply no evidence it is tied to Brock, and I don't believe he would.

(1,163 posts)I never meant to suggest that Brock came up with or even knows about the idea.
But if you went out into a schoolyard, for example, and threw out thousands of $20s and said "Go see if you can piss off the principal" and somebody slashes her tires or drops a brick on her head from the roof, you should be held accountable.
Brock/Clinton need to call back their Internet bullies.
And these activities should be used to highlight their chicken shit online trolling tactics and cause them to end.

(62,444 posts)There is no shortage of people who engage in mischief for pure shits and giggles. The notion that the miscreant responsible for this image required $20 in order to do it, demonstrates a poor understanding of miscreants.
