Progressive governments tackle problems too large for private enterprise or individuals to fix.
Progressivism is HUGE; it is found at all levels of society and was at one time very much alive to varying degrees in almost all its political ideologies. That's why the very wealthy anti-regulation and anti-tax advocates have invested billions over 30 years trying to convince Americans that "big" government is bad. "Big" oppressive government is how its enemies redefined "progressive" government in order to bring it down.
