A. will vote for the Democratic candidate to avoid women being killed in illegal, unsafe abortions
B. will not care about this and not participate if their candidate isnt nominated

(27,433 posts)will work their way up to SCOTUS.
SCOTUS decides what is or is not constitutional.
That awful bill in Indiana will surely be challenged. It's pretty clear how the 4 conservative judges would rule. One more and the law will stand.
Why anyone would even consider taking that risk is mind boggling.
brush
(53,743 posts)The Roberts court gutted it, remember?
Scalia, Alito and Thomas wanted to overturn it. Roberts would if he had the votes.
President Trump will get Scalia's replacement. Then you are betting on RBG staying around for 4+ more years.

(6,973 posts)You're assuming that he'll have to get a Supreme Court nominee past a Senate that's Democratic.
What if he has a GOP Senate, whose to stop him?
There are NO checks and balances there with him having a GOP-led Senate.
bunnies
(15,859 posts)But yeah, if he gets the Senate, anything is possible. He'll need a huge majority though as not all Rs will go along with it. Especially the women. The blowback would be swift and immense.

SHE IS the lesser of two evils.

(20,998 posts)...and first among those reasons is the forced rationale that if we don't vote for Clinton, we are helping to usher in in the tRump Apocalypse. In an election of this type and timbre, we should be voting for who we see as the best and the brightest, NOT the runner-up to the most offensive.
1StrongBlackMan
(31,849 posts)Somehow ... that makes sense to people. Whether it is true or false, even if you disagree violently with her policy positions, HRC still remains the better alternative than trump.
Raster
(20,998 posts)It all depends on perspective. And yes, I agree: Clinton is BY FAR the better alternative than tRump, whom I don't really believe even wants to be POTUS, and I am frankly dumbfounded that his "candidacy" has made it this far.
1StrongBlackMan
(31,849 posts)the solution to dealing with a part of the problem is to allow the bigger part of the problem control over that which is the problem.
That ... Makes ... No ... Sense.

(60 posts)Not because I want to, I have to. I am outraged that I am in this position to vote for her and I have no other choice. Thanks to the DNC and DWS for arranging this coronation. When I vote for her, there will be blood on my hands because I believe she is neocon and won't think twice about going into war to prove she is tough. For every military person that comes home in a body bag, I will feel responsible. I pray she proves me wrong. My vote will be interpreted that I support her when I don't. I support and am voting for the Supreme Court and Roe v. Wade. Not only will I hold my nose, l I will bring my barf bag with me

(2,412 posts)This is an excellent comment. When I look at how many dead bodies there will be around the world as a result of her reign, I shudder and cannot vote for her. Many more will die from her wars and interventions abroad than from Illegal abortions here. Sorry but I go by the body count and not voting for her is the lesser of evils.
OK all Bernie, Hillary, Joe Biden supporters. If this statement doesn't get you into the voting booth and GOTV push, then either just stay home, move to Panama, put on your aluminum foil hat, whatever, because you sure as shit are not democrats.

(626 posts)purposely allow Donald fucking Trump to be president?
Makes me really fucking angry
I am somewhat as other are weary with the back and forth between the candidates and the candidate supporters, but (what seem to me anyway) is the thought process that many dont seem to be looking over very well. Yes Hillary didi vote for the war, and yes it was a cluster fuck, as all wars are, and yes if President, Sen. Sanders may need to send troops somewhere, but to be so against someone as to allow the opposition (with a stroke of a pen) to destroy what it took many dedicated people, lives, heartache to achieve over years and years is plain disgusting.
JohnnyRingo
(18,619 posts)At least not while he's heading the court.
He knows that the Supreme Court is not a venue where litigants keep trying cases until they get the decision they like.
Trump is just telling people what they want to hear again. That seems to be a formula that works these days, regardless how ridiculous the promises.
semantics, the justice would be conservative, again leaving a 5-4 majority, and with some older justices , namely Ms Ginsburg being somewhat ready to retire, progressive is needed.
JohnnyRingo
(18,619 posts)I do have some issue with labeling any of them progressive. One doesn't rise to the level of federal courts by being a liberal. Certainly some are less conservative than others, perhaps even moderate.

(18,619 posts)Don't forget that this is the Chief Justice who amended the Obamacare bill to pass the bench. I think now that he has the lifetime gig he may be less idealistic and more serious about the position.
Actually, the quote was that he didn't "expect" to rehear the case, but he followed with comments about how people can't keep trying cases for the results they want. It's the Supreme Court, the end of the jurisprudence road.

(10,951 posts)In order to name enough justices to the Supreme Court to overturn Roe V Wade is he putting out a "hit" on existing justices? Short of voluntary retirement or death, you can't fill a seat on the Supreme Court. Any deaths under a Trump WH should be closely investigated.
