WASHINGTON The director of the F.B.I. said on Wednesday that he would not be rushed into finishing his agencys investigation of Hillary Clintons emails on an election timetable. And he would not say whether the inquiry would be wrapped up by the November presidential election.
We want to do it well and we want to do it promptly, so I feel pressure to do both of those things, James Comey, the F.B.I. director, said.
I dont tether to any particular external deadline, he said, so I do feel the pressure to do it well and promptly, but as between the two, I always choose well.
While Mrs. Clinton has characterized the investigation as a security inquiry, Mr. Comey said he was not familiar with the term.
The F.B.I.s case began as a security referral from the inspectors general of the State Department and the nations intelligence agencies, who were concerned that classified information might have been stored outside a secure government network. But multiple law enforcement officials said the matter quickly became an investigation into whether anyone had committed a crime in handling classified information.
Mr. Comey said he was receiving regular briefings on the status of the investigation, which has included interviews with some of Mrs. Clintons closest aides at the State Department on her decision to use a private server for all her government business as secretary of state. Some emails that went through her server appear to have been classified at various security levels because of sensitive information."

(2,039 posts)In April 2015, Comey spoke at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, arguing in favor of more Holocaust education. After The Washington Post printed a version of his speech, Comey was criticized by some commentators, who argued that he suggested Poles and Hungarians share responsibility on equal terms with Germans for the atrocities of Holocaust

It's rather naive to suggest he is leading the FBI on a political witch hunt. Especially when there is no evidence of that. Contrary, two neutral federal judges have found some evidence of bad faith from the State department.

I'll also let my neighbor know that I am moving my Bernie sign into his yard and that he's not getting his lawnmower back. You are seriously misguided and it's honestly a bit embarrassing that there are democrats that are this deluded.

And he should have been feeling sufficient pressure to finish a thorough investigation BEFORE elections.

For the record, usually this is not good for the targets. It also makes me wonder if a grand jury has been empaneled? And no, they usually do not tell you when one has.

(9,385 posts)It seems to get lost in the shuffle.
She's running for a big promotion. But this is how she handled her last job.
The fact that the FBI is even involved at all, and the fact that two IGs had to make a referral TO the FBI... that says all we need to know about her job performance.
It's one thing to have no experience (like Trump), it's another thing to have experience at completely bungling the job. She screwed up on two levels: on the military actions taken because she pushed them; and on this more bureaucratic national security whopping screw up of records for her entire 4 years as SoS.
WTH is competent about that? That's the point about this investigation. It's an "F" on her report card. It's an objective evaluation of job failure. And that's regardless of whether she's indicted or not.
And that's why she should not be running IN ADDITION TO the fact that no one under the legal jeopardy of an FBI investigation should be running either.
I thought Shrub was the most ludicrous Presidential candidate we could possibly have. But this tops that by far. This is even more ridiculous than Trump as a candidate. At least he hasn't ALREADY FAILED this badly.
And if that still isn't enough, add being Kissinger's protege. And she has the colossal nerve to use the word "dangerous" as criticism in her speeches! WTF, Dem party! This is nonsense. This is "through the looking glass" all the way. smh

(7,473 posts)Sick of the Hillary campaign, don't believe anything will change under her administration. My hope was to support someone who offered us a way to get beyond the same old baloney. I guess this is not going to happen but I keep the faith. I've been through this for too many years to believe the same old stuff.
You may criticize me if I say I will not support another Clinton administration. You are entitled to your opinion. I will vote in November but I may leave the most important slot---blank!

(937 posts)IC IG made a referral detailing the potential compromise of classified information to security officials within the Executive Branch. The main purpose of the referral was to notify security officials that classified information may exist on at least one private server and thumb drive that are not in the government's possession. An important distinction is that the IC IG did not make a criminal referral - it was a security referral made for counterintelligence purposes

This is a real issue and should be covered by all of the media - not just the right-wing ones. There has never been a time that a Party has put forth a candidate under investigation by the FBI.
