2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumStory after story are using the word illegal to describe Sanders...
Hundreds if not thousands of Sanders campaign contributions that break election law. This includes major news outlets. Sanders has been warned about it by the FEC for months, it has only gotten worse. It appears to be negligence as they are doing little to nothing to correct their shady practices.
It's clear his campaign has an issue that is about to blow up on them. When does the FEC themselves view the negligence on the part of the Sanders campaign as a criminal matter? Will this be taken on by other investigative bodies? Is that where we are now going?

(4,387 posts)When you get as many small contributions as he has, this kind of stuff will happen.

(30,481 posts)Dishonest dismissal is another thing I have noticed. The FEC has sent the Sanders campaign multiple letters over months and you are calling it the same story. It has continually gotten worse.

(30,481 posts)The blatant negligence of Sanders seems to be an important aspect.
"Illegal" = against the law, but not all laws are criminal laws.
For example it's illegal for me to borrow money from a credit card company and not pay it back, but it's not a crime.

(85,984 posts)...I remember the Obama campaign had a slew of FEC violations alleged by the agency and I'm thinking those were resolved by fines or other measures. It's serious and important, but it appears to be a daunting task to keep the money gathering within the law.
I do think though that there should be a more critical standard for the candidate who has made campaign finance both his primary attack on his Democratic rival, and a major part of his campaign appeal.
I don't expect his supporters to have enough integrity to confront this in any serious way, but I could be surprised, I suppose.

I would hate to try to control contributions. It has to be difficult. I would also like to think I would have made a minimal effort to deal with it.

(11,982 posts)Seriously, though, is she also handling the books for the campaign? This is the first I'd heard of that. I would think they would bring in someone professionally versed in this particular type of finance. I mean, lots of people can do their own taxes, but for handling the scale and type of financial tracking required by a campaign of this magnitude, I would think you'd need professional legal and accounting people who really know their way around this stuff.

(29,699 posts)the tag. I would hope they have someone who understands campaign finance handling the money. But given the FEC letters, it doesn't seem as though he does.

Deflect from the massive corruption of the Clintons.
So sure, go for it. Waste your time trying to besmirch one of the most honest & consistent politicians of all time.
