2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumAn active, agitated left wing is now an actual fact
And is not going away no matter how these primaries end. Many of us may grudgingly vote for Hillary- but if you think the issues Bernie's been talking about are gonna just go away? You're wrong. Nearly half the party supports him- and it's the future of the party, the young voters. So go ahead and hippie punch and dismiss us at your peril. This is a long game, and won't be over in July or November.

(5,815 posts)Yeah, I saw that. You're not a Democrat for bashing social security recipients. Flat out.

(38,437 posts)... Who intentionally twisted a note of support into an opportunity to spew more hate? Like I was shocked.
Good for you.

(5,815 posts)I work with people who are 100% on Social Security.
You were ignorant and you spewed. For you, all this is a fun game. Neat. I work with people barely hanging on. So, do you know how much a 100% disabled person gets in the Bay Area? $900/month.
You want to mock that? Make fun? Explain where they went wrong in being disabled? Talk about how they shouldn't rely on that?
Oh, poor fella. People bopped your nose when you went full Teapublican on the issue. *patpat* you'll be fine.

(38,437 posts)I responded to a poster who said he was horrified that a presidential candidate would consider changing SS because he and his wife received 90% of their monthly income from SS. My response was that I was horrified that 90% of his income was from SS. Anyone who was NOT looking to pick a fight would have realized I was empathizing not criticizing. A small handful of the overly dramatic decided to take issue, and you're continuing that.
Have the last word. I won't be reading your response.

(5,815 posts)I know exactly what you said. It was precisely in line with all your other rhetoric.
If it was so innocent, you'd not have full on deleted when people gave you the wholloping you deserved.

I'll bet they really really mean it this time.

(22,666 posts)The DNC/DWS/Hillary machinery has a YUUUGE shadow at their back. And that shadow is following them and will likely overtake them in the next 4-8 years and FAST.
PEOPLE. HAVE. HAD IT. with the goddamned Republican Lite Democrats. Of which Hillary is one.
This shit isn't going to fly much longer and is BARELY flying now with a LOT of propping up by DNC/DWS and BIG MONEY from Wall St., corprats and their lobbyists. THEY and the candidate they bought are part of the problem.
People are figuring that out. FINALLY.
This shit won't fly for "Democrats" next election.

(68,918 posts)There are a good deal of not-so-young people supporting Sanders. Don't forget that, or you make the same mistakes the establishment does.

(7,820 posts)And we've always gotten lost in the shuffle. So no, I haven't forgotten or ignored us.
ScreamingMeemie
(68,918 posts)A good many of us (yourself, apparently, included) have spent time and $ on establishment campaigns over two decades now. We are done, and they need to stop looking at us as "frat boys and their girlfriends." Hillary and company have done a good job at that, so I do my best at shutting down that stereotype.
TDale313
(7,820 posts)But the fact that his ideas are incredibly popular with young people matters. It means this is the trajectory, and that's a really good thing.

(68,918 posts)good thing to emphasize his older demographic.

(11,366 posts)Note: I'm also a Gen Xer.
Sandwiched between the two huge generations - the Boomers and the Millennials - Gen Xers have never really had a voice. There weren't enough of us to override the Reagan Democrats-turned-Third-Wayer in the 90s, so we either just went along with it or we stopped caring/voting.
We are also the first generation that really isn't doing as well as our parents. I know people think the Millennials are that generation, but that's not entirely accurate. While we've done OK financially WHILE we work, we're probably not going to be able to retire with the comfort that our parents had. We have no pensions, cannot adequately save for retirement, lose money to the wealthy in the stock market (401Ks) and see our Social Security being cut to the bone. Now that we're nearing retirement age, we can see what that's doing to both us and our Millennial children - they can't get decent jobs because we can't retire out of the workforce.
So, at long last, Gen X is waking up and siding with our children instead of going along with our parents' generation. It's the natural order of things: you fight harder for your kids than your parents.
And we ARE tired of the establishment that foisted the lack of choices on us. We're tired of being told to "go along to get along" and we want to do something about it before we get too old to do it.

(34,845 posts)If you clearly can't succeed with Sanders, then why not help push Clinton further to the left? But bottom line, stop trash-talking either candidate.

(6,143 posts)Then came Bernie, finally providing a leader to organize around.
If they can stay unified, organized, and inspired maybe they'll actually be able to make an impact by 2020 or so.

(5,356 posts)All we ask is that you "grudgingly vote for Hillary" if she's the nominee. We'll accomplish more later when we have a better candidate than Sanders and hopefully a Democratic congressional majority to back it up! For now let's make sure that Trump doesn't get to appoint two or three supreme court justices.

(11,546 posts)saying how after Bernie drops out, that the "Sandernistas" need to bring their high energy and dedication over to Hillary. I laughed out loud - they are SO delusional!
