Why are all these sane Republicans coming out of the woodwork all of a sudden?
Bob Crowder, the Republican who ran against Rep. Allen West (R-Fla.) in the primary, announced Wednesday that he is endorsing Democrat Patrick Murphy in the congressional race. And he didn't mince his words.
As a Republican for over 30 years, I'm embarrassed by the radical fringe that has taken over the party. Sadly, Allen West is their poster child, and the hateful, divisive comments he's made throughout this campaign make it clear to me hes the wrong choice for our district, Crowder said in a statement.
Crowder, who is the Martin County Sheriff, said he is backing Murphy because "he has the right temperament and respect for others -- including people he doesn't agree with."
Crowder said Murphy can work with both parties and will be a congressman that Florida's 18th District can be proud of, "unlike his opponent."

(6,267 posts)Looks like this may just be the start of the party's quest to find its original, true self (if it even exists anymore). I see the old-school Repubs starting to come out of the woodwork to endorse Obama. Perhaps there is some hope that the RW freakazoid base is starting to lose just a bit of power. I sure as hell hope so.

(3,678 posts)I saw a poster earlier expressing cynicism that none of the so-called-and-mostly-former "moderate Republicans" will stand up to call out the extremes.

(3,297 posts)They're seeing that there's overwhelming support for intelligent and thoughtful leadership despite all the efforts the unhinged, far-right assholes put into attacking Obama. They're seeing that in some cases Obama's getting support BECAUSE he's being attacked by unhinged, far-right assholes. And they are putting themselves on the side that has the votes.

West is just so contemptible.

(17,505 posts)Because the GOP is gonna lose, obviously, and they simply cannot stand to be on the losing side. It's about saving face, not any revelation of incompetence or sanity/insanity. It's about power, not what's good for the country.... tho' they might claim that the common good is their motive.

(10,857 posts)After four decades of abominable behavior, there are no Republicans of conscience left. But some are more slippery than others.
So I'll let this snake slither over the fence, but only long enough for me to get my hoe....
