Related: About this forumWill voice votes be used at the Democratic National Convention?
Suppose Sanders has a motion for the delegates to vote on adding something to the party platform.
Will that be decided by everyone who agrees shouting "Aye" and then everyone who disagrees shouting "Nay"?

(1,000 posts)in which case they'll call for a voice vote and decide whichever side they want wins regardless of the number of people against it
(I've seen Republicans this script before, and now that Republicans have seized control of the Democratic Party, it's rather predictable.)

You know, the Roberts rules of order were created for a reason; duels were unpleasant, noisy affairs.

(8,311 posts)I know the final delegate roll call is always done state by state. There would also not be any need for such a "voice vote" in committee meetings, like the platform committee -- which hopefully will go ahead and put in much of what Bernie wants even before presenting the proposed platform for changes.
The last one I watched closely was in 2008, and because everyone negotiated everything before the Convention there was little contention and most motions were carried without any nays.
This is the only voice vote I remember, and obviously was meant to pass unanimously.
