(3,457 posts)Apparently annoyed at Sanders supporters having managed to take advantage of Clinton delegate candidate no-shows to obtain more spots, the Nevada state party put through rule changes weeks before the state convention that gave the meeting chair complete and arbitrary control of the final step in the delegate certification process. That in turn produced a convention that was entirely undemocratic in the small d sense, with some Sanders delegates who had won their positions via the then-existing rules being stripped of their standing. In addition, the meeting was run on authoritarian lines, with party members offering pro-Sanders motions having the microphones cut off and the meeting being terminated with motions still on the floor. Dont buy Twitterverse claims that the meeting was run in accordance with Roberts Rules of Order; accepting a motion to adjourn without a second was one of many dubious procedures.

pnwmom
(110,260 posts)That wasn't Lange's fault.
And it wasn't wrong to expect ALL delegates to be Democrats and to provide ID. Since credentials weren't checked at the 2nd level caucus, my guess is that many of the hundreds who didn't show up this time weren't credentialed Democrats.
http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/news/wtf-happened-at-the-nevada-democratic-state-convention-20160517?page=2
According to the Nevada Democratic Party, the Sanders campaign had a sizable advantage in delegate slots (2,124 to Clinton's 1,722) going into the convention, but it failed to fill all of those slots only 1,662 Sanders delegates showed up on Saturday, compared to 1,693 Clinton ones.
Sanders supporters argue that the party refused to credential 64 of their delegates. By comparison, just eight Clinton delegates were disqualified in a similar manner.
Of the 64 disputed Sanders delegates, the party contends, only eight showed up at the convention on Saturday, and six were ultimately seated. The remaining 58 were disqualified, the party claims, either because they were not registered as democrats by May 1st, or because they did not respond to the party's attempts to verify their names, birthdays and addresses.

How Hillary Clinton Became a Hawk The New York Times
But Clintons foreign policy instincts are bred in the bone grounded in cold realism about human nature and what
one aide calls a textbook view of American exceptionalism. It set her apart from her rival turnedboss, Barack Obama, who avoided military entanglements and tried to reconcile Americans to a world in which the United
States was no longer the undisputed hegemon. And it will likely set her apart from the Republican candidate she meets in the general election. For all their bluster about bombing the Islamic State into oblivion, neither Donald J.
Trump nor Senator Ted Cruz of Texas has demonstrated anywhere near the
appetite for military engagement abroad that Clinton has.

Irate Berne Sanders supporters did not just leave threatening voicemails and texts for state Democratic Party Chairwoman Roberta Lange but also launched an assault on the businesses she oversees, the owner says.
Tom Gallagher, the former Caesars CEO and congressional candidate, said that his son's tavern, the Porchlight Grille, began receiving threats shortly after the convention ended in chaos Saturday. Lange is the day operations manager there.
"Beginning about 3am on Sunday morning our bartenders at Porchlight Grille began getting non-stop phone threats from Bernie partisans," Gallagher told me via email. "The level of threats including death threats and vitriol was astonishing. One of our bartenders was actually a Bernie supporter and was stunned at the threats he was hearing on the phone. He began to respond telling people that he was just trying to do his job and pay off his student loans and their tactics were harming his livelihood. It made no difference to the callers. Their goal was to harass and as became clear....to shut down the business and Robertas job with it."
Gallagher said the calls continued during the day Sunday until the eatery disconnected the phone.
"At one point on Sunday before we unplugged the phones, I took a turn at answering and experienced such a nasty call that a Metro officer who happened to be in the tavern as a customer picked up the call and attempted to encourage the woman to stop, explaining that what she was doing was unlawful harassment," Gallagher told me. "It made no difference. She actually responded that it was her right of free speech."
And then the social media assault commenced.
From Gallagher: "The Porchlight website and Facebook page were similarly attacked with threats, including by someone who set up a fake 'Roberta Lange' ID on Facebook and then posted on the Porchlight Facebook page incredibly slanderous attacks against both Roberta and her husband Ken, including a post by the so-called 'Roberta Lange' that accused her husband Ken of crimes against children!"
Gallagher then said people began posting negative reviews of the business on Yelp "claiming all kind of bad experiences. On the Google site for the tavern someone posted that it was permanently closed! We have so far been unable to get Google to correct this. Needless to say our business has been affected negatively. In 50 years in politics I have never seen stuff like this."

I think Bernie entered this race just to make noise and make his point. When so many people bought his rhetoric and he started seeing the crowds, the power went to his head. The Bernie Sanders of today looks like a man who is in love with power and will do everything he has to do not to let it go.
Not to condemn the actions of these supporters is unconscionable.

(151,268 posts)This is unconscionable, completely.
I don't know who those people are who posted that crap and who are threatening people, but I would not want them on my side if I were a presidential candidate. I would not remain silent about it either, if I were a presidential candidate.
In my opinion, this should end Bernie Sanders candidacy once and for all. Bigtree's post about the convention makes that even more clear.
I'm done with this and cannot wait for Clinton's nomination to be clear, once and for all.

(2,052 posts)With campaigns run increasingly in the mud, I do not know how anyone can concretely say they know who these people support. I can send a hate filled text and say #ImWithHer. Anyone could.
These messages are disturbing. I would like to know where the proof is that each of these were Sanders supporters.
I'm not naive either. I realize some Sanders supporters have gone overboard. But it's a broad ass brush being used to paint here.

(68,200 posts)I am very suspicious of the people doing thiis. I support Sanders and know of no one like me who supports him who would ever act like this. This is an attempt to smear Sanders and it is just so vile I suspect a well rehearsed campaign to tear Bernie's movement down. Even the republicans I know are never like this and certainly not Sanders dems...
