The Sad Decline and Fall of Bernie Sanders

The Sad Decline and Fall of Bernie Sanders
KEVIN DRUMMAY 18, 2016 1:15 AM

So tonight's Democratic primaries basically ended in a tie. There's really nothing of interest left anymore: Hillary Clinton will win the nomination, as we've all known she would for at least the past month.

The one thing I do keep wondering about is what happened to Bernie Sanders. Before this campaign, he was a gadfly, he was a critic of the system, and he was a man of strong principles. He still is, but he's also obviously very, very bitter. I wonder if all this was worth it for him?

Compromise is always in the eye of the beholder.

"Bitter" is a handy terms to dismiss anyone who does not come to heel.

"Whine" is a stupidassed way to infantalize complaints.

I feel bad for the Hillaryans so desperate to win that they must pretend each Bernie victory is a defeat.

in OR by the YUUUGE margin he needed to in order to catch up. The sad fact is his supporters still believe his lies that he can win the nomination. It's so sad really. How can they be so naive? Bernie needs to drop out now before he does more damage to the D nominee for POTUS. If he does not, he's an egotistical asshole and will be the main reason Hillary loses in November.

He has gone so negative its going to be hard to turn that around and endorse Hillary.

Its really a shame because he could be a huge asset to helping defeat Trump and the Republicans. Hopefully he will come to his senses soon.

He's pissed and frustrated. As am I and millions and millions of otehr people. And determined not to accept the paralysis of politics of the last three decades.

I see the tone of Clinton and the media now that the "pivot" has been underway for a few weeks. It's reverting to a worse version of the nonsense that has kept us stuck for three decades.

Sex, Unlikability. Untrustworthy. Corrupt. It'll be a reality game show between two personalities. Those are going to be the overriding themes of the General election. It's going to be nothing more than the usual Red Team Blue team rivalry, and good old "politics of personal destruction."

Issues will be an afterthought, at a time when they should be front and center. Liberal vs. conservative will mean nothing.

And my partisan side sees it as blowing a chance to fundamentally realign politics in Democrats favor. and push the pendulum back towards mainstream liberal/progressive strength.

I like to think of myself as someone who follows the news closely and is a well informed voter. But Bernie really opened my eyes to just how far the Democratic party has strayed from the ideals that it once held. Thing like fracking, regime change, no fly zones, trade deals that send our jobs overseas, embracing Wall Street money, opposing Glass Steagall, opposing healthcare for all, and opposing free college for all.

You can spin this as a defeat for Bernie. I'll choose to view it as a wake up call for many of us. And for that I'm forever grateful. Because, even if Bernie loses the nomination, he's helped us see the many flaws in the party. And either the party will give us a voice at the national convention so that we can help get it back on track or the party will further alienate a large portion of its base. Do you think it can afford to do that? Do you think it should do that?

His being a critic of the system is a big plus for millions of us. Oh and I am a subscriber of that magazine, I have even sent money for their investigative team. I may have to reassess.

The US congressional system is largely legalized bribery now. Our for profit healthcare system is pretty sadistic....go broke while fighting cancer so an executive or three can buy another beach house.

If Hillary bulldozes her way to the nomination I hope she sees the light but I'm skeptical.Oh and I need a sincere apology from any democrat who endorsed the Bush/Cheney Iraq power/money grab war. She is a lot of things but dumb isn't one of them....why did she vote for that war?

So....if Bern falls short congratulations Jill Stein you will have my vote....I actually like her more than Bernie and in any fair election system more that 2 parties are in play.
