2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumBoB has sealed the fate of the human race.
I wish there was a way to write our epitaph now, cuz when Drumpf steals the election with the help of BoB, the nuclear war will happen so fast there wont be time to write about us.
Who wants to help me write our epitaph?
"We were here, we couldnt get our way and grow up, so we done died"
something like that

(99,710 posts)Trump needs to win 65% -67% of the white vote. Even Nixon and Reagan in their 49 state blow outs didn't reach or barely reached those lofty numbers:

(29,199 posts)this election is likely sealing the fate of the human race.
Scientists are marking this period as the end of the Holocene epoch and the beginning of the next epoch where the major feature is a climate created by mankind.
http://www.realclimate.org/index.php/archives/2013/09/paleoclimate-the-end-of-the-holocene/
It is also the time of the 6th great extinction event in the history of the planet.
This will be hard for a lot of people to grasp given that the Holocene epoch started around 10,000 years ago which is ALL that recorded human history knows about.
There are three areas of the planet driving this man-made change of epoch (not asteroids or solar activity or other activity, but the activity of mankind). They are Europe, North America, and China.
Europeans have been doing their part... Germany has huge amounts of solar electric generating capability... Denmark and Spain have recorded days where all of their electric consumption was generated by renewables... whole days...
China... they have a plan... but I worry how quickly they will move forward with it.
And then there is the United States... we alone are sticking our heads in the sand and saying "neah neah neah".
We have maybe 10 years to stop the change of Epochs... maybe. 10 years to keep the planet on course to provide enough food to feed 4 to 5 billion of us (sorry, I know we are over 7 billion... and we actually grow enough to feed all 7 billion, but we can't seem to work out how to ensure that all 7 billion actually get the food they need).
So we have maybe a decade... or 2 Presidential terms... to solve the issue and drag everyone here kicking and screaming into a post fossil fuel economy. Trump absolutely won't do it... Clinton probably won't do it... Sanders MIGHT do it.
And it looks like Sanders won't be there.
So, yeah, this election is about the end of the world (for humans, the planet will be just fine without us).

(2,262 posts)everything he does is for the purpose of benefiting himself. Why would he want to see his financial empire destroyed, along with possibly his life and his families lives? Have you really thought this through? There have been some remarkably ignorant leaders in the world and none were willing to risk everything for a nuclear war.
I just find comments like your and this OP to be incredibly ignorant. It is as if every Clinton supporter was born without reasoning capabilities. And I do not support Trump nor have any plans to vote for him.

(4,311 posts)The BoBers are a tiny minority. Trump will not win. Dem unity has been postponed because Bernie is dragging this thing out. Once everyone has a chance to calm down, BoB will have no more influence that the PUMAs did in 2008.

Moments later, Clinton articulated a bottom-line policy that disagrees sharply with President Obama's observable priorities.
'We have to send a clear message: Just because your child gets across the border, that doesn't mean the child gets to stay,' Clinton said.

(1,947 posts)but lawdy we enjoy the Apocalyptic Apologist's posts. Sometimes they strike so much fear in me I have to fan myself and drink Ice water with lemonade on my front porch. My biggest fear is I will miss Madame Clinton's Cotillion Ball, I have been planning on attending since 2006. Lawdy the outcry if I weren't allowed to attend such a regal event. (Fanning myself thinking of the horror) If only we could get the guy you claim to support to drop out in the name of saving her cotillion ball. Lawdy the inhumanity whatever shall we do?

Arugula Latte
(50,566 posts)Although, this is hardcore Bernie country. He won here by almost ten points -- in a closed primary. There is a visceral dislike for Hillary among many, many people in the Northwest. I'm thinking there are a lot of us who are planning on either writing in his name or voting for Jill Stein. So it's possible Oregon could be close for Hillary because liberals and progressives can't bring themselves to fill in the bubble by her name, and Independents can't stand either Hillary or Trump. So then you'd have a situation where votes go to a different option than Hillary, and she loses the state. If it looks like Trump might edge her out due to that dynamic, I will have to think about my vote.
