'I Am Sick and Tired of Seeing Poverty': Bernie Sanders Holds First Major Bay Area Rally in San Jose

"I am sick and tired of seeing poverty all over this country, wherever I go," Sanders said to whoops and cheers from the crowd, many of whom described themselves as blue collar workers living in the shadow of Silicon Valley's wealth.

Sanders voiced his support for comprehensive immigration reform — something for which he is prepared to use to the "executive powers of the presidency," paid family leave, legalizing marijuana, and healthcare for all citizens.

The presidential hopeful also decried tax breaks for billionares and pouring trillions of dollars into wars, and instead promised to funnel the resources into "[rebuilding] communities all over this country."
"We are going to create affordable housing so people do not use 50 percent or more of their incomes just to have a roof over their heads," Sanders said in an area where exorbitant living costs are forcing people out of their homes.

Sanders blasted Donald Trump for insulting Mexicans and Latinos, "our Muslim brothers and sisters," women, veterans and the African-American community.

"I know that a lot of people are worried that Donald Trump will become president — that will not happen!" he stressed. "... Love always trumps hatred."

he would not let us down. He would not jump ship and nullify our hard work.

And, as a decades long poverty organizer and activist, the policies that her husband advocated for and for which she championed, as led to a crisis of poverty in this country.

She says she fights against poverty but she has a finger-wagging approach to fighting it. And a carrot and a stick… a rich person's approach so clueless as to the grueling life of being poor. Sure, a few will get a carrot but most will get the stick.

Bill Clinton's welfare reform was one of the cruelest pieces of legislation ever enacted by a democrat. Just heartless. Hillary lobbied for and championed it. And both touted the reduction of welfare rolls as a good thing.

Reduction of welfare rolls was not a good thing. It meant throwing millions into a hardscrabble no-safety-net life. It meant throwing more children into poverty so now we are the "champions" of the developed world with children in poverty.

One of Hillary Clinton's solutions (and most of the clueless rich Dem legislators) is to offer TAX BREAKS to CORPORATIONS if they hire people IN ENTERPRISE ZONES. IN THE HOPE that they will be hired on as permanent workers and GET BENEFITS!

This rarely happens. The corps hire them, glean the tax break benefits, then churn the workers out a month or less but before they become vested.

I've worked with thousands women who have been bumped from Target, Sears, Walmart, JC Penney, etc. and then churned out to start the entire cycle over again. Never getting a raise. Never getting benefits.

There is a new Union Movement arising that rejects the Democrats soft corporate friendly anti-poverty support. They do not trust the Democratic Party to have their back.

What will you do? What are your issues? What kind of policies do envision? How will you fight for them?

Is there a a social, racial, economic injustice that you are passionate about? If so, what is your contribution?

I will keep doing what I have for the past 60 or so years. I've worked in politics, as a children's advocate, as an activist and my take is that Bernie won't be the nominee and if we end up with Drumpf, we are totally screwn, so I will vote for the nominee.

But the question is, what will you do if Bernie isn't the nominee?

Where were they when they were chasing corporate dollars to fund their campaigns.

Bernie did not abandon the fight. Not one single day of his life. The Democratic party abandoned the fight.

anything.

Nobody, including Sanders is saying he's Superman ... a one man army who can change the system single-handedly. It took him decades in congress to get recognized for his record and his integrity, but that's how long it fucking took, because that shit doesn't get rewarded on the hill by other politicians, including the whole of the democratic establishment. It also took the internet and social media, because principles don't get rewarded by the media either.

Your post is just so snarky, and so damn disingenuous. Why wouldn't you give credit where its due, like to somebody who has actually stayed consistent? Why wouldn't you badger the rest of congress for never following his lead, or hell, even his tone on these issues? Instead, somehow its his fault that congress is sold to the highest bidder and has no interest in actually drafting and passing good legislation? "how come when we tied your hands behind your back you sunk to the bottom, loser." Fucking lame.
