2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumI am proud to say I never felt the bern.
It has turned out to be what I thought it would, a cantankerous angry movement. The saying itself was rather insulting to begin with... but ok, some of you folks felt it.
However, the bern has been extinguished. Time to move onto electing Hillary President of the United States.
You all can and should be very proud to vote for this accomplished woman. Probably the most experienced person ever to run for President.
If some of you want to sit out, leave top of ticket blank, or vote third party, or vote for Trump... or help Trump by doing any of these actions, that is truly your prerogative. I''m not going to waste my time trying to convince people who think the risk of a Trump presidency is an ok thing, when it would be the worst possible thing for us all.
You have a choice to make. Hillary or Trump. Do what you will.

(58,785 posts)and to me following a leader is strictly for authoritarians and children. But IMO saying the "bern" is extinguished is just not realistic, and definitely not sufficiently respectful.
For most of his supporters, the mature liberal block especially, their "bern" is for the stands on issues he represents, not Bernie himself. The "bern" is very much alive for them (good!), and they will be expecting Hillary to live up to her promises--and as much more as possible. Her current plans may not go as far, or as fast, but there is nevertheless tremendous overlap in what the candidates want to achieve, and all his intelligent and informed supporters are very aware of that.
For the others, they will also have to find their way to what they can accept in their own time.

Also, you joined three days ago. How would you know what my attitude has been?

(14,755 posts)Election laws are made by the states, not the parties.
Secondly, yeah its pretty obvious it would make no difference.
Secondly, closed primaries didnt cause Bernie's loss.
"Yes, he was swept in the closed states. But he also lost the open primaries by a 2-to-1 margin.
There have been 40 state contests so far, 27 primaries and 13 caucuses. Nineteen of those primaries were accessible to independent voters. Yet Sanders only won six of them, and two were his home state of Vermont and neighboring New Hampshire."

(1,820 posts)So you just did what you said you would not waste you time doing which is try to convince Bernie supporters that they have been:
1. Supporting a mean old man;
2. Feeling the "been" which you consider stupid and insulting; and
3. Telling us that we will be responsible for a Trump win if we don't support you candidate
So why we query did you really make this OP?? Because you are self-righteous and believe those who support Bernie should listen to you and cast aside what they believe or are you mad that Bernie won't get out of the race?
boston bean

Vote for Hillary or Don't and help trump. That is a statement. It's not meant to convince, cause really I can't deal with the cray cray of some of his supporters.

Without a clean bill of legal health, politically, she might as well have Stage 4 cancer. Time to find a new candidate. She isn't viable, and you should be prepared for that eventuality.

(15,805 posts)He was always bragging about money, money, money. His campaign was about raking in money. For a guy who says he's opposed to the financial industry, Sanders sure loves his Benjamins.
He does not care about Democrats, not the voters, candidates, or the party. He leveraged an association in congress that only benefited himself, and he can run for the presidency under the Democratic Party's banner, yet he boasts that he's no Democrat.
Sanders cares only about Bernie Sanders. He's becoming a dangerous liability with his angry, divisive campaign and his belligerent fans. That man should never be president of the United States. Thats it, plain and simple.

for certain. I don't care to see a million immigrants rounded up and torture revisited., etc.

(15,220 posts)Yep, that's the choice, and everyone here is free to make that choice. Personally, I've been Hillary all the way.
It's boring and tiresome to hear the constant threats of "I'll never vote for Hillary", or "what are the Hillary supporters going to do to court us".
I hate threats.
In the end, it will be Hillary and Trump, and your post has perfectly set out the ramifications of not voting for Hillary. That's all anyone can do.
Hope you enjoy your day!

(1,446 posts)quickly put out that fire. (I am a millennial, so have an excuse...peer pressure is a bitch!) The more I looked into Sanders' absolutely hollow campaign, the more scared I became of it. A movement without a working plan for implementation can only lead to broken promises, and when that happens in young ideologues...rage is not far behind.
