2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumHow far behind Drumpf would HRC have to be coming into Philly...
for you to consider the idea that someone else should be nominated?
(I'm not necessarily talking Bernie...and it would be pointless to draft Biden because he's past it at this stage...but someone else...maybe Bernie, maybe Warren...maybe somebody other than them...?)
I'm trying to get a sense with this of how much people here would be willing to risk in the name of making sure it was HRC as our nominee.

(30,439 posts)I can only imagine the reaction from Bernie supporters if Bernie led Hillary in pledged delegates and overall votes, but the superdelegates gave it to Hillary because she was leading in general election polls.
You guys would be pissed if the superdelegates overturned the will of the people and took the nomination away from Bernie.

But the frontrunner being behind in a poll
before our convention isn't going
to cause setting aside the primaries to pick a different nominee.
Hillary is going to be the nominee.
She's won the most contests, the most delegates, and the most votes.
Thinking anything else is going to happen is simply fantasy.

(50,254 posts)When they were already hopelessly behind coming into the conventions in which they were nominated. And it was pointless nominating Hubert Humphrey in 1968, when he was thirteen points behind Nixon the week the convention started.
I'd expect your side to make the same argument if Bernie was twenty points down going into Philly.
It's not as though there are any issues ONLY HRC stands for this year-and especially none that would be worth going down to a Mondale-type landslide defeat(Mondale ran as a budget-balancing centrist who had no proposals to revitalize the Rust Belt).
I don't want us to go down in flames no matter who we nominate.

(3,733 posts)Let's pretend for a minute that all the SDs flipped to Bernie
because Hillary was polling so far behind.
Who is going to stand responsible for that should Bernie lose.
What happens if you set aside the results of the elction
and still get Trump.
When Carter lost in 80 and Mondale in 84.
Them's the breaks.
Sometimes you win. Sometimes the other side wins.
You don't set aside the rightful nominee.
Sorry
Bernie lost

If the party ignores the will of the voters then count me out.

(325 posts)Even 16% down, it's hard to imagine giving someone else the nomination when she has more pledged delegates. It would take something truly cataclysmic.

(146,287 posts)It's about primary results in 50 states and some territories. It's about delegates allocated by the wishes of the voters in those places. It's not about polls.
Polls don't determine party candidates. Votes do.

(1,446 posts)stepped up rhetoric. I would be surprised if he made it to the D.C. primary.
If he lasts any longer...it will be because he has gone rogue.
