"More for Gore or the Son of a Drug Lord? None of the Above, Fuck It, Cut the Cord."

- Guerrilla Radio, Rage Against the Machine

This was the supreme and most meaningful political statement of my generation, Generation X.

This was our apotheosis.

We had just lived through Seattle, Genoa. (The Battle of Los Angeles was released, miraculously, less than 30 days before the Seattle WTO protests). I laugh when people here call me a conservative Democrat. I came up in the anarchist tradition, in that late 90's movement, and I've had my ass in the tear gas and jail cells of those days. That was our scripture. Long time gone, now.

None of the above. Fuck it. Cut the cord.

Fuck it. That's what we thought. I gathered with 18,000 or so in Madison Square Garden in October of 2000 to see Ralph Nader speak. Eddie Vedder came out and played Dylan, in disguise. I voted for Ralph Nader on the Green Party ticket in Brooklyn. None of the above. Fuck it. Cut the cord.

Yes, this is about these primaries. They make me nostalgic for those heady days. Yes, the Sanders supporters, too. Especially, even. There was a silent longing in our message. We've been here before. Lights out. Guerrilla Radio.

We've got to start somewhere
We've got to start sometime
What better place than here?
What better time than now?
All hell
Can't stop us now
All hell
Can't stop us now

This was our apotheosis: Fuck it. Fuck it.
