(12,354 posts)Many Sanders supporters who are Independent and just dislike Democrats and Hillary period. So, they either stay home and not vote at all or feel compelled to protest vote for Trump as either/ or a way to be able to shut down Hillary.
bonemachine
(757 posts)The amount of daylight between the two of them is blinding. I will give you that here may be a significant number of Bernie supporters who stay home, or vote for a third party, especially in blue states.
But to suggest the folks who are die hard Bernie supporters would completely abandon the values that Bernie embodies and vote for Trump... Like I said, Trump is trolling you, and you are taking the bait.

(7,473 posts)The continued Democratic primary race appears to be sapping some of Clintons strength. Shes losing 20 percent of Bernie Sanders supporters to Trump, while winning only 11 percent of leaned Republicans who backed someone other than Trump for their partys nomination.

There are some Sanders supporters who hate Hillary with a passion. That is their right... Let me repeat it, that is their right...But it has to chafe their asses that a racist, sexist, homophobic, misogynistic, anti-semitic, anti-Muslim, xenophobic, and ultra-nationalist candidate like Trump is depending on them to beat her.
I know it would chafe my ass.
Demsrule86
(68,556 posts)then they are shite. Sorry if you are progressive you vote for a racist...they might be something but progressive is not it.
DemocratSinceBirth
(99,710 posts)I would vote for Joe Manchin. the ConservaDem.
Kelvin Mace
(17,469 posts)even Trump. Hating people is a bad habit and never solves anything. There is a tendency of people on both sides of this issue to equate "disagree with" as "hate".
Trump may think he can get Sanders' voters, but it is unlikely he will. If he wins it wil be thanks to heavy right-wing turnout by people who do hate all things Clinton (the racist, xenophobic, etc types you mention), independents who don't like HRC and non-votes from liberals who HRC is doing everything she can to alienate.
Duckhunter935

(17,469 posts)Ok, I'll bite. So far the only people I have seen claiming Sanders voters will vote for Trump are HRC supporters and poorly sourced news outlets quoting HRC surrogates, or "knowledgeable" anonymous officials.
How about some links to Sanders supporters saying other Sanders supporters will vote Trump?
bettyellen
(47,209 posts)that. So, yeah. There are more than a few here too.
Kelvin Mace
(17,469 posts)so you are relying on wilful distortion of other people's words then pointing to the your insinuations as evidence.

Kelvin Mace
(17,469 posts)that you have no link to, of a celebrity on national television "laughing about how Trump would fuck the country really badly."
Gee, if only people recorded such things and posted them to some video web site where other people could see them. If only TV news programs maintained an archive of theirs shows with transcripts of what various guests said on their programs.
But, I'll take your word for it. So, that's ONE instance. Have any more? Perhaps, you have people on this site saying they will vote for Trump?
bettyellen
(47,209 posts)Making shit up. We both have heard the BOB chants at rallies and so has Sanders. Let's not pretend otherwise.
Kelvin Mace
(17,469 posts)"Bernie or Bust" has two meaning: One ascribed by Bernie Supporters, "Bernie or nothing"; and the other ascribed by HRC supporters and their ilk, "Bernie or we vote for Trump".
I'll stick with how I, and other Bernie supporters, have defined the issue.
And before you chime in, refusing to vote for HRC is NOT a vote for Trump. Voting for Trump is a vote for Trump. If Trump wins it will be because the Democratic Party picked a weak candidate.

(10,650 posts)"They hint at it"! That's classic. You should be ashamed.
No they don't. It is consistently stated that Hillary is a terrible candidate and why. It is pointed out that trump can and might beat her. Many go so far as to say he will beat her. That doesn't mean they support trump or will vote for him. It means Hillary is a lousy candidate. There is no hinting about anything.

(10,650 posts)If you live in a solid Blue state or a solid Red state it doesn't matter who you vote for in the presidential contest. That's most of the voters in the country.

(1,662 posts)They are two sides of the same coin driven by greed and power and are every thing Sanders and his supporters are against.
Pay for play, special favors for rich friends, protectionism of the wealthy, corporate favortism, exploitation of workers and American citizens.
Trump and Clinton have both profited from war and death. Trump and Clinton have both taken money from and have close relationships with murderous totalitarian dictators.
Neither one of them care about the people of this country. They are both narcissitic and nihilistic and only care about money and power and destroying anyone and anything and use any means to justify their ends.
redstateblues
(10,565 posts)Hillary is a solid liberal-she may not be as pure as the Purity Party demands but to say she and Trump are the same is just not true. It may be your opinion that Hillary doesn't care about this country but I believe she cares deeply for this country and has served it. To call Hillary a narcissist is ridiculous and unfounded. You have virtually no proof for most of your opinions. When Bernie was asked in the last debate to name one instance of corruption he could not name one after railing for a year about it. No proof of quid pro quo.

(154,021 posts)Why would he even say that (And for the record less than he believes will vote for him)
There is anger in the country, at the political establishment. He is running a classic outsider campaign at this point. Hell he has from the beginning. Why do you think he got that nomination? (Mind you, people here did not take him seriously, and still don't)
But while I expect the number of Bernie supporters to be lower than he expects, (much lower actually) you know which group I expect to cross in large numbers? After all they did it for Bush and Reagan... conservadems History is indeed prologue
What I do expect is more than a few Bernie supporter to sit it out. I also expect them to leave politics in large swaths, especially the young ones. Myself I could care less at this point, The way the system has revealed itself. I am back at home, in Mexico, where who I vote for is determined by who counts the votes.
Congrats, because I am not alone, The system is increasingly seen as not legitimate.
Oh and as to those conservadems, I know a few. They will vote for Clinton in June to stop the commie, realize average age is 65 in that crowd, and they will vote for Trump in November, They make no bones about it. They cannot stand her. They remember the 1990s... and for at least one, it is a morality thing.

(31,700 posts)Remarkably, Clinton is only running evenly with Trump among 18- to 29-year-olds - a key Sanders support group thats looking ever-more resistant to her nomination. In March, Clinton led Trump among under-30s by 39 percentage points, 64-25 percent. Today they split 45-42 percent. Its a group Barack Obama won by 23 points in 2012, and one that Clinton needs back.

Sapping "her" strength.
We've always known that Sanders has stronger crossover support, including support from outside the party that Clinton won't get. It isn't just beginning to happen, lol.
