(27,742 posts)for her personal emails until I recently had to deal with a government network and the associated IT department. It became very clear after that.

(32,076 posts)I get your point but if she doesn't know enough about tech to secure SOS emails, she isn't on top of shit enough to be President. Or SOS, really.

(27,742 posts)By now they should have enough evidence to make a case. Would you think that knowing that she is practically the nominee for president that the government would do something by now? This would cause a great upheaval to the system at this point, it's all pretty weird.

(62,444 posts)Yep.
We're talking about a cabinet level officer interested in being able to timely communicate around the clock, not a 9-5 civil service worker who cuts out when they leave the office.
There's an operational tradeoff there.

(45,851 posts)It's amazing how widely the meme spreads when it's politically advantageous.
If the SoS can't communicate official government business in a timely manner through official government channels then there is something seriously wrong with the government.

(62,444 posts)I did not mean to suggest that government is incompetent, which is a very broad statement verging on meaningless.
It's more of a process issue - such as the situation we have in which the DoD personnel systems are unable to interface productively with the VA system. Or where the FAA has to mange similarly incompatible stuff.

(45,851 posts)Somehow I think if the Secretary of State really bore down on the IT staff they would have managed to get her secure and reliable communications as a matter of pride if nothing else.
As I pointed out in an OP a few months ago, a leader who bypasses the official systems for their own convenience isn't doing their staff any favors, it's another example of poor leadership.

Instead, from what I can tell about the Clintons they said forget it and did it on their own.
This of course is only speculation.

(27,742 posts)Of the VA network. Believe me, if any reasonable person tries to deal with this , its impossible. I don't know what Hillary was dealing with, but I'm sure it was at least as bad.

(33,224 posts)... she first was given the opportunity to delete 30,000 "personal" ones, which apparently included correspondence to then-General Petraeus. Recipes for chocolate chip cookies, no doubt.
