2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumIs there any endorsement that would change who you support?
I know that for me, there is no such. If I see an endorsement for my candidate from someone I respect, I think YES! If I see an endorsement for the other candidate from someone I respect, I think, What is wrong with you?
So I ask (and who you support doesn't even matter here): Would you change your support because of some endorsement? The no's, I understand. But if you say yes, please explain.
And thank you to all who read this and to all who choose to respond.

(9,314 posts)I always feel confident in my political choices because I do my homework and make up my own mind. And I think the same thing as you when someone I respect has a different favored candidate: what is wrong with you!

(57,936 posts)Endorsements are pretty meaningless to me. I make up my own mind about things.
I like to see the candidates when they appear at the Democratic Club to seek endorsements. That part of the process I like.
That someone else likes a candidate? Does not impress me at all.

(56,582 posts)Schweitzer endorsed O'Malley (which was how I found him) and O'Malley hasn't endorsed since he dropped out. Either one of those would probably relieve my reservations about either Clinton or Sanders. (I voted Sanders, but this has been the most disappointed I've been with my primary choices, ever.) Obviously kind of late at this point, but either one of those could have helped solidify me to one remaining candidate rather than kind of living in "pox on both their houses" land.

(1,820 posts)I research the candidates and my opinions are based on reality and my heart. I listen to others certainly, and give weight to ideals that resonant with me. However, what anyone thinks about a candidate or how they will vote will never sway me.

(23,156 posts)You all actually responded as I expected. Of course, DU is not necessarily representative of the outer world, but I think that for a lot of people, especially those who pay a lot of attention to politics, and even though we may disagree strongly about who would make a better candidate, we are not going to be swayed by endorsements.
Thanks again.

(206,276 posts)Actually, when someone I like and respect has endorsed someone who I don't support - and I have done my homework - my opinion of the endorser takes a nose dive.

(23,156 posts)Perhaps we should all be paying a lot more attention to the city council seats, the state representative and state senate seats than we do. I'm guilty of just barely paying attention to the likes of those.
And again, thank you for all the responses. I sort of wish I'd asked this question a year ago, although I don't think I'd have gotten a vastly different response.

(1,198 posts)Moderate Republicans who fail to distance themselves from Trump permanently scar my views of them.
Those who endorse Hillary label themselves as part of an establishment that is the reason why Obama's right track/wrong track polling numbers suck so bad.
Those who endorse Sanders label themselves as part of a progressive core who gets it.
Those who refuse to endorse between Hillary and Sanders are an interesting group.

(8,812 posts)As others have already suggested, I can make up my own mind.
There's something creepily authoritarian to me about letting endorsements determine one's choice.
But then, I've always considered advertising rather absurd for similar reasons.

(2,023 posts)Supported Hillary...I'd VOTE for her...not the ol' "I'll support our party's nominee " line.
That's about the only way..

(14,255 posts)I doubt that any endorser has the same views about a candidate that I do.
Endorsements are nice, for one's own candidate, but I am pretty sure that I am looking for different qualities and positions on issues, from a different perspective, and with more to gain or lose, than any celebrity or politician.
