(62,270 posts)I don't know why the pundits insisted on suggesting he wasn't a good pick. I think that they had way too much faith in the Republican establishment even though said establishment has not held power for a long time in reality (the tea baggers and far right wingers have been whittling away at their control).

(68,556 posts)And despite St. Bernies assistance in attacking Hillary, Trump will not win. Bernie would lose badly but he won't be the candidate.

(11,945 posts)People just start calling someone "good" and it doesn't matter anymore what they've done, how they've lived their lives.
Except electing a president is serious business and has real consequences in the lives of people. Many considered Reagan a "good" person, and Bush too, for that matter. Sometimes "good" means nothing more than pleasant. A lot of people voted for Reagan and Bush because they thought they'd enjoy having a beer with them.
People should read this OP and think about it:

Life is not TV show.

(6,592 posts)And I do stand by that. In the case of Hillary, sadly - I sure didn't say they were equivalent.
Oh and this is the second time I've been accused, directly or indirectly, of being a Reagan Democrat because I said something mildly nice about Hillary. It's kinda starting to get old.

(11,945 posts)Your voice was only one of several that surprised me, and Fawke Em was the only one who was paying attention. I have never considered you a Reagan Democrat. The point was not ideology, it was, as I said, those who respond to candidates based on superficial characteristics like how pleasant they seem.
I got the impression that people were so charmed by the "togetherness" theme that it didn't matter that Hillary took the lead in the dance and in the end got rid of Bernie into an elevator and then emerged the victor. That, IRL, would be a very sad result for the American people, no matter how temporarily cozy it might feel.
