It is a very small number that supports independence.

Most favor statehood, some favor continuing territorial status; independence is a distant third.

In fairness, Sanders doesn't claim to support Puerto Rican independence.

Read what Sander's has to say about Puerto Rico.

the support for independence is very small.

and THEY vote on it themselves and rejected independence.

it's silly to compare it to a colony

It seems to be a self-selected internet poll (i.e. based on visitors to their site opting in to a poll, not a random population selection).

Here's the page where they describe their polling...

https://pasquines.us/2016/03/21/introducing-the-2016-elections-puerto-rico-poll/

where they say "We will accept opt-in responses on our online-based survey" and provide a button to sign up to participate.

But you're 100% right plus it's an online unscientific poll.

And it was before Bernie began his campaign in Puerto Rico.
