2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumThat took a while the sanders rally in National City
May 22, 2016 (National City) The attendees came early to stand in line to watch Senator Bernie Sanders, running for the Democratic Presidential bid, at Kimball Park in San Diego. It was a carnival atmosphere, full of young people and older people, a true face of the melting pot. We estimate the ground at 8 thousand, but we did not get official estimates from the campaign.
Among the first in line were three young women, proud latinas. Mia Goros, Xochitl Andrade and Melissa Quiroz. They spoke about the Campaign. They had been there since 8 in the morning for a speech scheduled for 7:30 at night. They told Reporting San Diego that they came because we all believe in him and his message.
We asked for some specifics. He is going to give us a free education and that is important for us. Also becuase of womens rights, will articulate the birth control. and having our bodies be our bodies. The three of them are millennials.
We also spoke with Mary, who asked us not to take a photo of her, or use her last name. She is African American. and many people are shy about talking to the media. We respect that. She did speak to us about her reasons to be at the rally. She told Reporting San Diego, I like his goals. I like what he is offering. We asked again for specifics, she likes free affordable community college. She also spoke about single payor health care.

(154,021 posts)for the most part kids are aware, but they have a hell of a time verbalizing this with a 50 year old reporter. I am aware of that.

(14,255 posts)It was for the grinning and slavering hyenas that yap and yip that the kids want free stuff. In reality, it is Wall Street, the corporations, and the MIC that get free stuff, here in the US.
Thank you for all that you do!

(154,021 posts)I kind of pressed them, but I can only quote what they said. Mary went into the banking and how the post office bank plan helps them, after tom prodded even more.

(39,909 posts)The average American would NOT see any Tax Increase for Bernie's Education Plan (Free Tuition at Public Universities). That would be paid for by a very small (fractions of a per cent) Wall Street transaction tax.
That would have 2 good effects.
*Our children could get a good education and graduate Debt Free.
*The Transaction Tax would put a damper on rapid trading, done mostly by computer and benefiting mostly the Big Trading Houses, bringing back some stability to the market.
The revenue would go toward free tuition at public colleges and universities and would also be used to pare down student debt and pay for work-study programs, as well as other programs, Sanders says.
<snip>
"These high-frequency traders ... make enormous amounts of money, billions and billions of dollars, and do nothing of any social value for the economy," said Len Burman, co-director of the Tax Policy Center, a joint project of the Urban Institute and the Brookings Institution. "They're just kind of the modern-day equivalent of skimming pennies out of the till."

This morning it took hours to compress the video and upload to YouTube.

(50,414 posts)I'm second generation Irish. My family came here to steal jobs from REAL Americans.
However, I'll bet waving an Irish flag would be a lot more acceptable than waving a Mexican one.

I for one am perfectly OKAY with higher taxes so my fellow Americans can have education and healthcare.
