5. The Media needs a contest

That's the only way to get people to tune in.

The important things that are going on right now aren't sexy: building infrastructure in swing states, bring new people into fundraising networks, planning for the convention, tediously vetting VP candidates, etc. If they talked about that stuff, most people would flip over to a "Law & Order" rerun.

So they'll continue to create a "hot" political horserace story of the day, but very little of it will have any impact on what happens in November.
