DETROIT Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton promised to stand with the large Service Employees International Union if elected president, and pleaded with members to help her defeat Republican Donald Trump in a speech Monday in the Cobo Center.
Trump economics is a recipe for lower wages, fewer jobs, higher debt. He could bankrupt America like hes bankrupted his companies, Mrs. Clinton said.
Mrs. Clinton said the White House should be a bully pulpit for working families, but the last thing we need is a bully in the pulpit.
We are going to defend the right to organize, protect collective bargaining. Lets make the jobs of the future good union jobs that cant be outsourced. Right to work is wrong for workers and wrong for America, she said.

Hillary Clinton crushed Donald Trump by asking two easy and obvious questions while addressing the SEIU (says Jason Easley):
Hillary:
...were not talking about any ordinary anti-worker Republican. A lot of Republicans themselves say Donald Trump is a disaster waiting to happen to America. What little we know of his economic policies would be running up our debt, starting trade wars, letting Wall Street run wild. All of that could cause another crash and devastate working families and our country.
Trump economics is a recipe for lower wages, fewer jobs, more debt.
He could bankrupt America like hes bankrupted his companies. I mean, ask yourself, how can anybody lose money running a casino? Really?
And thats not all; I hear every day from families who afraid of what a Donald Trump presidency would mean for millions of immigrants who are living and working in America.

"I am here to tell you I join with you to do everything we can to make sure the men and women of SEIU who are providing care for our children, elderly and people with disabilities, you all have a living wage," Clinton said. "I know that you are often unsung heroes. I want you to know your fights are my fights. Just like the theme of this conference says, together we are unstoppable. There has never been more at stake for working families than there is now. ... With your help we are going to win in November."
Clinton told the union members she identifies with them and shared that her father owned a small printing shop in Chicago and her mother worked as a housemaid at the age of 14.
"I grew up respecting the dignity of hard work and what it takes to provide a good middle-class life," Clinton said. "That's why I believe when unions are strong, America is strong. ... There is no doubt, even though some may try to question it, unions helped build the strongest middle class right here in the United States."

(11,197 posts)that's probably her biggest turnout at any event yet. I do recall seeing her draw literally dozens to a coffee shop rally though which was evidently a big deal, so this certainly surpasses that, so I can see where, to a Hillary supporter, 3,000 would be like a wet dream.

(85,996 posts)...isn't the result of fraud or any other criminality - most of which is being complained about would affect candidates indiscriminately.
BOTH candidates would be adversely affected, despite the spin coming from folks pretending to know how those affected would have voted.
You look foolish claiming a 3 million vote lead is due to fraud. Get back to the issues that propelled your candidate into this race.

(5,761 posts)voted for Hillary. Most of America doesn't vote in primaries. We all know Hillary has progressive support and no indy support and we also know that come the general, that bubble you believe in is going to get crushed should she be the nominee.

(22,871 posts)board of my local and have been to a few of these conventions, the people in that audience are there because they were either voted to attend at their local meeting or are part of their local's board. There's no "turnout",it's not as if it's a rally that anyone outside of conference attendees can attend.

(25,471 posts)The rest are a joke.
Just like the only good Democrats are the ones who support Bernie.
The rest are just the Confederacy.
And, the only good open primaries are the ones Bernie wins.
The rest, which happen to be the majority, are rigged.

(20,176 posts)Teamsters or Longshoremen would call her on her bullshit. Their leadership may support her but the rank-and-file tend to be more concerned with what you've done before, not what you're promising now...and by that metric, Hillary's an enemy of labor.

(6,896 posts)it isnt funny when a corrupt union misrepresents and cheats madly against challenges.
Health care profiteers need a union like SEIU to sell out their membership.

(20,176 posts)I don't think SEIU is a joke...SEIU is a joke.
They're not great for their membership, they tend to be employer-friendly and exist solely to provide "labor support" cover to pro-business Democrats. They're not a union...they're wankers playing at being a union while betraying some of the most-exploited workers in the nation. They're worse than not being represented at-all.
How little use do I have for SEIU? I regularly support the efforts of real unions to oust and replace them so those workers can have real representation.

(889 posts)A speech at a convention means little, Secretary Clinton. Where were you when the unions really needed you?
From the ABC News link below:
In six years as a member of the Wal-Mart board of directors, between 1986 and 1992, Hillary Clinton remained silent as the world's largest retailer waged a major campaign against labor unions seeking to represent store workers.

(889 posts)...Hillary was on the board of directors of Wal-Mart, a notoriously anti-union company.

(8,699 posts)* unless it harms my ability to make millions of dollars in speeches from banks or my other corporate masters like WalMart that hates unions and a living wage. Please disregard that I have actively campaigned against every union's desire for a living wage of $15 an hour and advocated only for $12 an hour. Also forget that I support the "gold standard" TPP trade policy that will work against unionized labor worldwide.

(889 posts)Hillary took money from the big banks. Not just a dollar here and there, but millions of dollars. And big banks just don't give their money away. They invest it, and expect a future return on their money.
Hillary supported NAFTA and TPP, both of which are union-busters. She accepted a seat on the Wal-Mart board of directors, a company notorious for union-busting. While at Wal-Mart , she did nothing but accept her director's pay. She did ZERO to help the working person.
Then she goes before a union, and gives a feel-good speech. Everybody applauds. She is one of us!
No, she is not one of us. She is perpetrating a massive con, probably the biggest con in US political history.

(7,300 posts)...remember:Anyone can do your jobs. You have no real skills, that's why you are in the service industry after all. Your jobs are really meant for teenagers to work after school (even if the businesses are open during school hours). $12/hour is enough and we'll take several years to get there so it's really just maintaining your current wage. Sen Sanders wants to saddle you with a Yuuuuge Tax Increase to pay for his Unicorns like Single payer and free state college tuition.
These are all statements seen here on DU. Sec Clinton has been involved in America's politics for 25 years and has never lead the fight for increased wages, benefits or job security. She's an out sourcing, guest worker loving, TTP is the Gold Standard (unless it gets votes to say the contrary) candidate. No thank you.
